racing enthusiasts and VIP invitees to the

royal Halcyon Melbourne Cup weren’t

that surprised when the Queen and

Prince Philip arrived unannounced to help

celebrate Melbourne Cup Day. The royal

Couple joined over 120 home owners,

friends and guests at the HTC (Halcyon

Turf Club) event conducted in the lavish

Leisure Club.

Fashions in the Field was once again

a big hit with over 30 women and 18

men fielding a range of outfits from

the serious, to the not so serious, and

often hilarious! Along with Fashions

in the Field, party goers also enjoyed

sweepstakes, games and a sumptuous

buffet lunch, followed by dessert. The

royal Couple magnanimously offered

to hand out prizes on the day including

Best Dressed Man, Best Dressed Lady

and Best Fascinator. The lucky door

prize was 10 tickets to the 2010 PCYC

17th Annual Gala Dinner, which took

place on Saturday 6 November and was

thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The fun and the champagne flowed, then

things really started heating up at around

2pm when Halcyon celebrated with

most of Australia and 500 million people

watching worldwide for the running of

the cup.Whilst some had a little good

fortune and others weren’t so lucky,

everyone agreed that once again the

day at the races at the HTC was an

overwhelming success.

2010 a look backWow, what another amazing year it has been here at Halcyon Waters.

We’ve welcomed the 285th home owner into our community, celebrated

the Cup, enjoyed ‘Jazz in the Park’ and who could forget Normie rowes

live set that had us all up and dancing at ‘Concert in the Park.’ Along the

way we’ve done the ‘Time Warp,’ competed in the Gold Coast Marathon,

sponsored our own bowls tournament and copped a few backhands in the

Halcyon Pat Cash Tennis Tournament. Our home owners have collectively

travelled over 500,000 kilometres on holidays and adventures, and we’ve

built Australia’s first terraced homes in an over 50’s lifestyle community. But

most of all in 2010 we’ve shared laughs and had a ball.

A simple swing set in the backyard in one

of Halcyon Waters spectacular Terraced

homes sealed the deal when long-term

Gold Coast residents, Des and Cynthia

Heiner made the decision to purchase a

home at the award winning Hope Island

over 50’s lifestyle community. “I told them

we wouldn’t buy the house unless they

included the swing set,” laughed Cynthia,

who is looking forward to her two year old

granddaughter spending time with them

in their new home when they move in

shortly. In reality it wasn’t just the swing set

that was the deciding factor, the Heiners,

particularly Des spent quite a lot of time

online researching the ‘pros and cons’ of

such a move.

Having lived on the Gold Coast for over

40 years including spending the last 23

years in their double storey home at

elanora, the Heiners were used to the

extra space, a stunning outlook and the

quality finishes and fittings that were a

part of their large family home. “We had

considered apartments, duplexes, even

other smaller homes to downsize to

before a friend recommended that we

check out Halcyon Waters,” said Des.

On a whim, the Heiners took the

opportunity to inspect Halcyon Waters

and were immediately impressed with what

they saw. Being used to extra space and

wanting a backyard for both entertaining

and for when their granddaughter visits

meant the bubbly couple were drawn to

one of Halcyon’s new Terraced homes. The

unique limited release is a first for Australian

retirement communities featuring upgraded

specifications, finishes and fittings, and most

important of all a private landscaped terrace

featuring Alfresco outdoor living and a

private herb and vegie garden.

By now Des’s list of ‘pros and cons’

was filling up on the ‘pros’ side with

important items like: the security of a gated

community, facilities, no exit fees and no

stamp duty. “After I weighed it all up, I

couldn’t see any negatives,” said Des. “At

Halcyon Waters there’s loads of space to

cycle, you’ve got all the natural parklands

plus there’s the workshop, the pool, gym

and the Leisure Club, it’s everything

we had and more,” he added.

Another attribute of Halcyon Waters that

the Heiners found hard to resist was the

secure caravan and boat storage on offer.

Like most of the home owners there, the

Heiners like to travel for extended periods

and the fact that they can securely store their

motor home close by was a major bonus.

“It’s going to be a whole new lifestyle for us,

when we travel in the future we won’t have

the worry of what’s happening at home,

we can lock the doors and go knowing

someone is keeping an eye on the place,”

said Cynthia.

Des and Cynthia were also delighted

when they were invited to a ‘Meet the

Neighbours’ event to introduce new home

owners into the community. “All the people

we met were so down to earth, so much

like us that we thought we’d fit in straight

away. It seems that at Halcyon Waters you

get involved with the community as much

as you wish, it’s your choice,” said Cynthia.

Now so impressed with the overall concept

of living in a Halcyon community the

Heiners have already ‘raved’ to other friends

who now want to look at making the move

to Halcyon Waters themselves.

Halcyon home owners at the PCYC 17th Annual Gala Dinner

As part of the lucky door prizes handed

out at the royal Halcyon Melbourne

Cup, 10 Halcyon home owners were

fortunate enough to win tickets to the

PCYC 17th Annual Gala Dinner at

the Brisbane Convention Centre. The

excited group loaded up the Halcyon

private community bus and hit the

highway heading north to join over

1,300 guests for a tribute to rock ‘n’

roll, starring Frankie J Holden, Doug

Parkinson and Paulini amongst others.

Halcyon supports many charitable

organisations. These relationships add

enormous value to the fabric of our

communities, and in part help to create

the “something special” feeling that is

often attributed to Halcyon communities.

People often ask what makes Halcyon

Parks so special? Like all Halcyon lifestyle

communities it all starts with location, and

the first in Halcyon’s trilogy of over 50’s

lifestyle communities is certainly blessed

in this regard. Not only does Halcyon

Parks offer a diverse range of activities

and interest groups to its over 300 home

owners, when you want to ‘get outside’

it’s perfectly located to take advantage of

the many features of the local area. Just 5

minutes away, Caloundra offers a range of

entertainment like the Caloundra rSL, The

events Centre and the racecourse, along

with a host of restaurants and shopping

facilities. For beach lovers, Pumicestone

Passage, and over eight local pristine ocean

beaches are all just a short distance away.

The numerous golf courses in the region

provide a variety of playing fields for the

many keen golfers at Halcyon Parks. In

addition to this the ‘Halcyon Hackers’

Golf Group get to spend time at their

own pitch and putt on the green or visit

the local par 3 courses for a game.

For the adventurous, Halcyon Parks’

community bus is often commandeered

Location, Location, Location

Life is not a dress rehearsal

With its enviable location right in the

geographical centre of the Sunshine

Coast, Halcyon Landing the latest lifestyle

community from the Halcyon group, has

already received a flood of enquiries via

the website. Potential home buyers are

eager to be amongst the first to choose

their new home at the Bli Bli master

planned community.

All Operational Works applications

have been lodged with the Sunshine

Coast regional Council, and approval is

expected early 2011 enabling construction

to be commenced in the second quarter

of 2011.

When completed, the project will

feature Halcyon’s award winning formula

delivering 170 homes and resort style

facilities, including an expansive Leisure

Club, a championship size bowling green,

a floodlit tennis court, swimming pool,

spa... the list goes on and on. Along with

Halcyon Landing

by home owners to tour the beautiful

Hinterland just

20 minutes away.

So just like all Halcyon communities,

whether it’s inside the gates, or outside

the gates, the lifestyle opportunities are

all around.

Halcyon’s popular favourites, the innovative

design team are already working on plans

for some new home designs which will

make their debut at the Sunshine Coast

lifestyle community.

Superbly located along the banks of the

Maroochy river on a 22 hectare site,

Halcyon Landing will offer the convenience

of a shopping centre literally at your

doorstep. The river Markets Shopping

Centre features a village style charm and

boasts an IGA, chemist, medical centre,

newsagency, cafés and more. The centre

currently has a development approval to

almost double in size. The land for the

extension has recently been cleared, and

the owners advise they have entered

into a construction contract with a major

builder and expect to commence works by

February 2011.

Wander through one of Halcyon’s award

winning display homes and you might

just notice some simply stunning wedding

photos gracing the room. These are

not your traditional ‘stock’ display home

wedding photos, they are in fact photos

from within the Halcyon “family” of the

beautiful Jodie Fields (nee Martin) on her

wedding day with her husband rubyn.

Jodie helps coordinate the marketing and

advertising for Halcyon. After seeing the

breathtaking Currumbin Valley wedding

photos, Halcyon asked Jodie if they could

use the photographs to add a touch of

realism to the display homes.

We thank Jodie and rubyn for the

photographs and wish them all the very

best for the future.
