Quality Assurance Processes
2010
Working in partnership to deliver quality and standards
• Our commitment is to reduce the bureaucratic burden of assessment and assessment related processes on you. We intend to achieve this through moving from our NQF model of ‘Edexcel-driven quality control’ to our new QCF model of ‘centre-driven quality assurance’
• Investment in:• Stronger support for centres• Improved support materials
Transition from NQF to QCF model
Quality Review &
Development
CentreRisk
Assessment
Accredited Internal

Standards Verification
National Standards Sampling
Internal Verification
Quality Review & Development
Develop quality, deliver success, raise attainment• Replaces Centre Risk Assessment• Process is fundamentally the same as CRA• All centres visited annually by a Centre Quality Reviewer• Visits take place between October and April• Includes all BTEC and NVQ provision• Places stronger emphasis on managing assessment and
verification
Accredited Internal Verification
Confidence in assessing to the standards• Already running with BTEC Work Skills and Foundation
Learning programmes• Formalises the internal verification process• Provides direct training and standardisation for a named
Lead Internal Verifier (IV) for each Principal Subject Area – see handout
• Lead IV registers via Edexcel Online• Lead IV completes online standardisation via Edexcel
Online (OSCA2) during one of three available windows • OSCA2 will have training exercises available throughout
Accredited Internal Verification
• Successful standardisation will release certification for three years
• Unsuccessful standardisation or non-completion will block certification and trigger allocation of a Standards Verifier
• Lead IV re-registers annually to confirm that they are still in post
Standards Verification
Checking practice, supporting standards• External verification process which replaces NSS• Programmes will not automatically be sampled each
year• Random sampling undertaken for all BTECs• Standards Verifier undertakes sampling where Lead IV
standardisation is unsuccessful or not completed• Successful sampling releases programmes for one year*• Blocked programmes follow the same model as NSS:
• 2nd sample• Remedial action by Regional Quality Manager
Standards Verification for NVQs and Competence based programmes
Two pronged approach:QRD – annual, generic review of quality processesDevelopmental approach – emphasis on supporting centres to improve internal quality assurance
Standards verification – annual visit by occupationally competent standards verifiersSampling of learner portfolios in usual wayProvide advice, support and guidance on best practiceRecommend certification
