Straightline Bluegrass

Dale Gilbreath - Mandolin Darrel Phillips - Bass Tim Jeffery - Guitar Todd Davis - Banjo, Guitar Ivan Parton - Dobro Although most of us have seen these talented guys playing music for many years, Straightline was formed in 2000. They returned from a hiatus just last year for Habot and now we won’t let them stop. Straightline performs gospel, traditional and contemporary bluegrass and they perform it well. Check out these harmonies. Here’s a preview of the next Habot show… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3iQU2bsx0o - Crying Holy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mus69G8RD0 - The Old Cross Road

The Raymers Ron Raymer - Guitar, Dobro, Mandolin Arrena Raymer – Bass “We have had a busy summer with remodeling our house and attending 4 bluegrass festivals. We have averaged 2or 3 performances a month, mainly senior church dinners, community centers, assisted living and retirement centers. October is a busy month as we have 8 programs to do counting the two BG clubs (HABOT & KCABG). “ “We have reached the age when we are no longer adding to our 13 grandchildren, but it is the 'greats' that are now the additions. We have 5 greatgrandchildren. Arrena spends a lot of her time tatting and I try to attend at least 2 jams each week. We plan on heading to Texas around the 8th of November. We have around 5 shows scheduled for down there at the moment and I will be 'Pastoring' one of the park churches.”

Bluegrass Brigade just celebrated the BIG 40…. Forty years of performances for Bluegrass & BBQ in Silver Dollar City!! This band formed in 1974 and the current members have been playing together for 30 years. That’s a long time for a band to stay together. Influenced by Flatt & Scruggs, Country Gentlemen, Stanley Bros., Seldom Scene, and some of their other favorite greats, they have taken bluegrass all over the world. From Nashville to Vienna, Austria, and Ireland, these talented musicians just don’t stop. They have recorded 15 CD projects, with the latest being "I Thought I Heard You Calling My Name". These are available at their shows or by mail order from the following address: Jack Burlison --- 11001 East 49th St. --- Kansas City, Mo. 64133. It’s all about bluegrass, so don’t miss their next show. OURSPECIALGUESTS….

We lost a wonderful musician and amazing bluegrass family member, Clyde Beatty, on Sept 10th. He was born in Independence, went to school in Florida, & worked as a carpenter for 44 years. He enjoyed playing fishing, car shows, gun shows and watching the Lone Ranger. He was most proud of his involvement with Bluegrass music where he and his wife played in several bluegrass bands over the years. He attended Eastside Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Teri; his mother, Barbara Jean; a daughter, Lori Walters; a son, Brad; a brother, Mark; 2 grandchildren, Alex and Josh Walters. Words from our bluegrass family…. “Clyde was a guy we should all aspire to be like. Never a cross word, always asked how things were going and remembered what was going on with you.” Clyde will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Paul Allison hardly ever missed a Habot meeting and read the newsletter from front to back. Survivors include wife, Teresa Allison; daughters Stacy Lucas, Veronica McCoy and Trisha McCoy; brother, Samuel (Sharon) Allison and six grandsons. Our music family has lost a good soul. Please keep his family in prayer.

From our President… Hey Habot Friends, I am so excited to get started this year. It seems like it has been a long summer in some ways and in others, really short. I am not a fan of the cold weather, but we always seem to get through it. And with the help of some great music, it is much sweeter. I went to a couple of festivals this summer and enjoyed them, but was a little disappointed to hear some of the bands playing electric instruments. We at Habot are proud to say that our club is an all acoustic club and will stay that way. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Please come and have a great time.
