Clinical Applications of Cardiac CTDuring the past few years, cardiac CT (CCT) has acquired an increasingly important role as a no-ninvasive imaging method that allows assessment of coronary heart disease from both the morpho-logical and the functional standpoint. It is quickly becoming a primary clinical tool for the evaluation and follow-up of various conditions related to the heart and great vessels and is providing valuable insights into the natural history of atherosclerosis. The rapid advances in CCT technology, the advent of new clinical applications, and the acquisition of data on prognostic value are just some of the reasons for the publication of this new edition of Clinical Applications of Cardiac CT, little more than 3 years after the first edition appeared. The text has been extensively revised and updated to reflect current knowledge and practice, and the structure and layout of the educational content have also been improved.

Features 7 Unique mixture of clinical and technical information for understanding cardiac CT 7 Up to date protocols, tips and tricks, and clinical in-dication of cardiac CT 7 Deep integrated vision of cardiac CT in the context of other cardiologic diagnostic applications

Contents Epidemiology and Clinical Assessment.- Targets of Coronary and non Coronary Imaging.- CT Semei-ology.- Technique.- Clinical Applications.- Other Diagnostic Modalities.

The pain stethoscope:A clinician’s guide to measuring pain

Second only to the common cold, pain is the most common reason for health care visits. It results in significant personal and social costs to individu-als, and economic costs to society. Chronic pain has been estimated to cost more than 100 billion annually in the United States, and its estimated annual cost to European countries ranges from 1.1 to nearly 50 billion Euros (nearly 1.5 billion to over 60 billion dollars). In order to treat pain, clinicians need to be able to assess pain and its ef-fects on functioning. However, 100s, if not 1000s, of different measures of pain and pain-related domains exist.

Features 7 The author is a world-respected leader in the field 7 The only book of its kind on the market 7 The book will provide a very brief but clear description of state-of-the-art science pain assessment strategies that will make it easier to un-derstand and effectively monitor and treat patients with pain 7 The book provides all of the specific items for each measure described, as well as clear scoring instructions

Contents 1. Introduction.- 2. Measuring Pain Intensity.- 3. Measuring Pain Quality.- 4. Measuring Pain Lo-cation.- 5. Measuring pain behavior.- 6. Measuring pain interference.- 7. Measuring sleep quality.- 8. Measuring depression.- 9. Measuring general physical functioning.- 10. Measuring alcohol and drug use.- 11. MDCT ProtocolsWhole Body and Emergencies

Multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) has become a fundamental imaging technique for the study of many anatomical dis-tricts in different clinical situations, as it provides a fast, reliable, and accurate simultaneous evaluation of different organs, including parenchyma, hollow viscera, vessels, and bony structures. It has also equipped the radiologist with the ability to explore areas that in the last decade were largely ignored by CT, especially the coronary arteries and the colon, and to limit invasive diagnostic tests (e.g., catheter angiography) to those cases in which interventional procedures are required. The exa-mination quality and the consequent diagnostic accuracy of MDCT are the results of an optimized study technique, which nonetheless needs to be adapted to the particular clinical situation of the patient, while bearing in mind the radiation exposure.

Features 7 Practical handbook with easy-to-read and simple proposals of MDCT protocols 7 Many examples from routine clinical practice 7 No other similar work in the literature

Diffusion Tensor ImagingIntroduction and Atlas

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is a variation of diffusion-weighed imaging. Particularly in the neurosciences, this technique has gained tremendous momentum in the past decade, both from a technical point of view as well as in its applications. DTI is mainly used in neurological diagnosis and psychiatric and neurologic research, e.g. in order to locate brain tumors and depict their invasivity. DTI offers a unique in-vivo insight into the three-dimensional structure of the human central nervous system.

Features 7 Direct comparison of DT-MRI and con-ventional MRT on opposing pages 7 Nerve fibers visualized with great clarity – in vivo and three-dimensionally 7 Concise overview and applications of Diffusion Tensor Imaging 7 Fi-ber-tracking – how to reconstruct fibers 7 Live pictures on DVD

Contents Foreword.- Preface.- 1 Introduction to Diffusion Imaging: Diffusion for dummies.- Timeline.- The-oretical Aspects.- Practical Aspects.- Normative development.- Neuropsychiatric Diseases.- Neuro-Oncology.- Bibliography.- 2 The Atlas: Guide to the Atlas.- Coronal Slices.- Sagittal Slices.- Axial Slices.- 3 3-Dimensional Reconstruction of Fiber Trajectories: .- Corpus Callosum.- Corticospinal Tract.- Superior Longitudinal Fasciculus.- Fornix.- Cingulum.- Brain Stem.- Uncus.- Optical Tract.- Other Fasciculi.- Index.

Radiation Dose from Adult and Pediatric Multidetector Computed TomographyComputed tomography (CT) is a powerful tech-nique providing precise and confident diagnoses. The burgeoning use of CT has resulted in an expo-nential increase in collective radiation dose to the population. Despite investigations supporting the use of lower radiation doses, surveys highlight the lack of proper understanding of CT parameters that affect radiation dose. Dynamic advances in CT technology also make it important to explain the latest dose-saving strategies in an easy-to-comprehend manner. This book aims to review all aspects of the radiation dose from CT and to provide simple rules and tricks for radiologists and radiographers that will assist in the appropria-te use of CT technique.

Features 7 Provides in-depth information and guidance on CT technique and radiation dose reduc-tion 7 Second edition with new chapters on up-to-date strategies and technologies 7 Inclu-des clinical examples, protocols, and access to an online image gallery 7 Written by leading physicists and radiologists

Contents Part I: General Aspects of CT Radiation.- Part II: Clinical Approaches of Dose Optimization and Reduction.- Part III: Initiatives for Dose Reduc-tion.- Part IV: Practical Approaches Depending on Vendors.- Part V: Low Dose Images.
