The Catholic Institute, Hope treet, was founded in I 50 by
the late Right Rev. Monsign r Nugent, and the late Very Rev. Canon
Wortby. It is under tbe patronaae of tbe Bishop and clergy of the
Diocese and is conducted hy the Christian Brothers.
The course of tudies has been arranged with tbe object of
affording a good, sound, liberal education, well suited fol' tho e intended
for the Cburcb, the Learned Professions, Commercial Life, or the Civil
Service.
The chool has heen recognised by the Board of Edl1cation
and by the variolls Local Councils as a Public econdary School,
at which the cholarships offered by tho e Councils are tenable.
In connection with the Secondary chaol is a fully recognised
Centre for tbe Catholic Pupil Teachers of the City and district.
The Classes are conducted by the Brothers assisted by Com
petent Masters. Special attention is paid to Religious Instruction
and to tbe fostering of Piety amongst the pupils.

ttt I. All Pupil who live within a reasonable distance are expected
to be present at Mass, at -30 a.m. each morning
2. Pupils must attend punctually and regularly.
3. No Pupil must be absent, without special permission, unless
through illness.
4. Parents must see that due time and attention are given to
the preparation of Home work. Neglect of this point materially
retards the progress of a Pupil.
5. Parents will always be notified of the absence of their Boys,
and an explanation of the cause of such absence is expected.
6. No holidays are allowed except those granted by the school
