From the BoardHot Fun in the Summertime...

Ihope everyone has been enjoying their summer thisyear. As usual, the block party is quickly approaching.This year, the block party will be on August 20th, and

begin around 3 pm. After considering the weather conditionsand bugs at the tot lot, the board has decided to host the blockparty on Cloverdale Road between Schillinger Road and JerseyCourt. As in years past, all even addresses are asked to bring adessert and odd addresses are asked to bring an appetizer.Please also bring your beverages of choice. We hope to seeeveryone come out, and if you would like to help out, pleaseget in touch with a board member.

As for some other items that have been tended to, repairswere finally completed on the tot lot playground equipment. Iwould like to thank you Chuck Manganelli for accomplishingthis! The security lighting and video will be installed within afew weeks. We are also looking into some needed painting bythe playground veranda, as well as power washing. Also, wecontracted the removal and replacement of two dead trees inthe detention area, as well as removal of dumped debris.

Finally, yard and exterior home maintenance is somethingthat our community prides itself on. This time of year, manypeople are moving in and out of the area. It is important that allyards are kept and maintained to municipal or bylaw code.Remember that all garbage cans are to be kept inside of yourgarage and not allowed to be stored outside of your the home.

Called to Order 8:44 pm.

OLD BUSINESS

Outdoor Report

Tot Lot: • Tot lot repairs are now complete.

• Due to no usage, the board has decided to remove the

BBQ grill.

• To finalize the work on the park, the board is reaching out

for quotes to remove graffiti and rust.

• The board has approved a bid to provide electricity in the

park area. This will be used to install security lighting and a

surveillance camera mounted on a pole.

Entrance Lighting:• The LED lighting system project is complete.

Fencing:• The fencing project has been completed.

Landscaping:• Clarence Davids & Company will continue to manage

landscaping and common area maintenance through

November 15, 2018.

• Dead trees and dumped brush have been removed from

common areas.

Beautification:• A reminder to all residents that garbage cans must

remain in their garages until the night prior to garbage

collection.

• It is important to keep yards and outdoor areas visible to

neighbors and street reasonable through routine

maintenance. Failure to do so will result in a

communication from the Board, which may lead to city

maintenance costs to be incurred by the homeowner.

Special Committee

• The city has started work on the drainage project.

• A sewer lining program will start in August to be

completed by October

• Carl continues to remain in close contact with city

Engineers.

NEW BUSINESS

Treasury Report:As of 4/7/2016 Treasury reports the following balances:

• Checking - $USD $7,135.45

• Business Premium Money Market (Savings) – USD

$111,084.40

• Net Total = USD $118,219.85

2016 Annual Assessments Update:• As of 8/3/2016, 1 unit has not paid their 2016 annual

assessments.

• In addition to the assessments, unpaid unit will be

responsible for additional legal fees and cost of collection

agency.

2016 Block Party:Location & Date:

• The block party will be held on Saturday, August 20th on

Cloverdale between Schillinger and Jersey Court.

• The block party will start at 3 pm.

• Food to be provided:

Tacos, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Chips, Soda, Water.

• Food is scheduled to be provided at 4:30 pm.

• Residents should bring:

- Even number house number: Desserts

- Odd house number: Appetizer

- This is a BYOBeverage event

• Entertainment:

• Clowning around, giant slide, moonwalk (bounce house),

obstacle course, rock climbing wall, magician, fire truck/

police

Additional board duties:

• Tori - Gather and submit necessary permits and forms

and signatures needed by city to host party.

• Matt - Shopping (Costco for Burgers, dogs, plates,

napkins, silverware, water, soda, chips)

• Matt - Tents and garbage cans from storage

• Matt - Entrance signs with Block Party details (Thursday

8/18)

• Older kids (volunteers) to manage events / trouble.

• Jeff to secure magician and portable restrooms.

Carl motions to end the meeting. Bob seconds, unanimous

agreement.

Starting school in the fall meansseveral things - school workbeginning, new classes, making

friends and managing your time. Whether youare an upperclassman or a freshman, havingyour day and schedule run smoothly willensure a successful school year and less

stress.

Tips for a Great YearDon't just assume a great year is going to fallinto your lap. You have to work to make ithappen. Whether you're already superorganized or you like to procrastinate until thevery last minute - the time to plan ahead isbefore school starts. Use specific strategiesto help you not only stay afloat during theschool year, but really thrive.

Get Plenty of RestHaving an adequate amount of sleep isimperative to a successful high school career.Students who tend to sleep less than eighthours a night may not be as awake or alertduring the day. In addition to school work, ifyou plan to participate in after-schoolactivities or sports, you will need to rest up todo your best.

Eat Breakfast and LunchAlways start your school days off with ahealthy breakfast to get you through the dayuntil lunch. If you are not a big breakfasteater, then consider eating a protein bar orsmoothie to stave off hunger. If you tend toeat later in the morning, you may want tocarry a small snack to munch on betweenclasses before lunch. If you do not like theschool lunch, you can pack lunch to take toschool. This way you have exactly the kindsof foods you enjoy.

Keep Your Locker OrganizedThere are several types of locker organizationsystems available. Choose a shelving systemthat allows you to store your books andfolders in an upright position. This will beespecially helpful for when you are rushing toyour locker between classes. In addition,hang a magnetic, dry erase board on theinside door to help you keep track of theday's to-do list.

Organize Classes with BindersPurchase color-coded binders to use for eachclass. This will not only help when you arelooking in your locker for a specific class, butyou can also store all the class notes in onearea without mixing them up with another

class. Choose binders with a clear frontsleeve that allows you to display a weeklyclass calendar.

Talk with PeopleThere is no reason to be shy with newpeople. Whether you are returning to highschool, or you are new, talk with the peoplearound you. Look to your left and right, andmeet the people on either side of your locker- they'll be there all year long. In addition tomaking friends, talking with people may helpyou with class work and trying out for sports.

Get InvolvedLook at the list of after school sports andclubs available to you. Pick something thatinterests you, and join the team. This not onlylooks good on your college resume, but it is agreat way to meet people, exercise your brainor body and show your school spirit.

Attend OrientationNewbies should always attend schoolorientation. Even students who are going intotheir senior years will want to attendorientation. It is a great way to meet students,teachers and hear what is going on with theclass.

Sit in FrontDo not slink into the back row of a classroombecause you will get called on more, and youmay not hear everything the teacher has tosay. Stick near the front or middle, unless youhave assigned seats, for the best experience.

Create a Homework AreaAssign a place at home that is yourdesignated homework area. This area shouldbe off-limits to anyone besides you duringyour designated homework time. Choose anarea that is free of distractions, such as adesk in your room or dining room table.

Prepare for the Next DayLay out your clothes, books and other thingsyou may need for the following day of school.If you pack your own lunch, consider doing itthe night before.

Before the First DayBefore heading out the first day of school,take a moment to breathe. Your high schoolyears will fly past and soon you will beheading off to college. Take time to meet newpeople, participate in after school activitiesand study hard. Good luck!

I'm affectionate, snuggly, and gentle!I do like some toys, but I like it best when you can play with me. Having someone to care for me who's notaway from home very much is my dream. Oscar | 11Y 4M | Beagle Mix | MaleIt's awards season and isn't it everyone’s dream to have an Oscar? While I may not be gold and shiny, I'vebeen told I'm pretty great. I have a very mellow personality, but I can also be very curious, I am a beagleafter all! Speaking of being a beagle, I am true to my breed and can be very vocal. So I probably shouldn'tlive anywhere with shared walls (i.e. apartments, condos, etc.). I enjoy going for walks, but would muchprefer to spend my time relaxing. I need to be the only dog, but could possibly live with a cat. Children inmy new home can be of almost any age, but it would be best if they understood that I need my alone timesometimes. If I sound like the dog for you, start practicing your acceptance speech and stop by soon!

This may or may not be the right time for you to adopt a new furry family member ormaybe you just want to see if your child’s interest is serious before making a commitment

to an animal. Naperville Area Humane Society’s education programs are a great place tostart!

The Naperville Area Humane Society offers many opportunities for kids to learn aboutand get hands on experience with pets. Our Pets & Kids After School Program beginson September 12 and runs throughout the school year. This six-class program is offered

to kids 8-12 years old on Monday afternoons from 4-4:45 pm.They will learn how to hold and handle animals properly and even get the

opportunity to give a dog a bath! We talk about animal body language andcommunication and then “see” what the animals are telling us on a behind-the-

scenes shelter tour. They get to the nitty gritty part of having a dog or cat and help with cleaning a dog kennel and a cat cage.

There is also an entire session devoted to dog training using positive reinforcement techniques. The childrenwill have an opportunity to use their newly acquired skills when teaching a shelter dog the “sit” and “down”commands.

A veterinarian comes to visit and they learn about what animals need to be healthy and what can happenif a pet's health is neglected. They even listen to a dog’s heartbeat through a stethoscope after watching theveterinarian give the dog an exam.

At the end of the six classes, the kids receive a completion certificate along with a goodie bag. Each six-week session has a limit of ten children, so sign up today! Registration costs only $60.
