Happy New Year!!
Al and I hope that each of you have enjoyed the Holidays!
What a beautiful time of year! We hope that you give
yourself the space and freedom to reflect on the past year.
Honor the past by celebrating your joys, mourning your losses, and shaking your head at
the wonder of it all. As Goldwing riders, it is going to be all right through the ups and
downs of life because we know to take on the challenges of those hilly roads. Are you as
ready as Al and I are to watch 2020 unfold, with all the ups and downs and challenges and
wonders?!
In this first newsletter of 2020, we want to share some news for Ohio GWRRA and Chapter
B’s new year.
* the Ride Schedule of 2020 will be at the meeting- please pick one up.
* at the Christmas party, we announced the Individual of the Year: CAROL CULLER
* Couple of the Year is CHARLIE AND PHYLLIS BARNETTE
* TED STRUTZ has taken the position of Chapter Skill Enhancement Advisor
* Our charity for 2020 is Richland County Humane Society (shelter needs are listed in this
newsletter; cut out a use all year long)
* We are hosting a Medic First Aid class at the Tiro Firehouse on March 14
* TRC and ARC riders’ education course will be held May 16(TRC) and 17(ARC) in
Galion
* Trek Ohio a ride challenge from District team, is a great way to see great places in Ohio.
Get involved in the challenge!
* Karen and Larry have the 2020 Ohio Rides Passports. Don’t forget to pick up a copy and
get it signed at the events you attend. You might win a free registration to a district event!
*It is NOT TOO Late to sign up for Cabin Fever at Salt Fork Lodge. This is a great get
away and a healthy dose of laughter for the winter doldrums? We are in the running for
the Chapter of the Year!
* We are looking for a great couple of Chapter B to become Chapter Directors in 2021!
Will it be you? Please consider it. You would be great!
Phew! I got a load off my mind!! See you on January 19 at the gathering (I work on

CHAPTER B MEETING- SUNDAY, JANUARY 19TH
We had a lot of warmer days in December, with a lot of
motorcycles on the road. I was tempted, but there was so
much salt on the roads, that I thought….best not. But the last days of December, brought
us back to reality….the real winter.
We lost two more former Chapter Members in late 2019.
Ray Hartz passed away the day after Thanksgiving.
Al Barnett passed away on December 11th
.
As we all know, life goes past so fast, we realize that good health is our most valuable asset.
5
If we think about it, riding season is not that far away and, again, the time will pass very
quickly. The Chapter Staff is already planning another wonderful year for everyone. And,
remember, any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. We always want to incorporate
any activities you suggest, if we can work them in.
DENNIS LONG
MOTOR AWARENESS
Happy New Year!! The good news is the days are getting longer,
so riding season is on the way, I know but be patient. If you need
a little stimulation, the IMS will be in Cleveland at the IX Center
01/24-26
I know this topic has been discussed at meetings before, but is still something to revisit.
The Ohio Next of Kin registry, with the Ohio BMW.
Most of us have family near and the local police may have a notion of who to contact if
there is an emergency. Maybe I'll pose this question. Do you know how to contact our kids
if I and Cindy, were to have something happens? Both of our kids are female, married and
took their husband’s last name and moved out of the area. Now, let’s consider being away
from home, either a ride, a winter home………Now the police have even less to go on.
The registry can be accessed at three places. You can go to your local Deputy Registrar
office; on line at http://bmv.ohio.gov or by filling out the form that is attached to this web
site - https://publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/bmv2436.pdf This link to the form is for not only
setting up your registration but to modify by adding, removing or changing your current
Next of Kin.
The registry allows for two contacts. Think of the comfort/peace of mind your family
would have if an unthinkable emergency would occur.

RIDE COORDINATORS
JOE & JACKIE WOODMANSEE
Happy New Year to all. As everyone knows Jackie and I
have stayed on for one year as Ride Coordinators and we are
still checking out several places to go in the fall. We are still
open to suggestions for places to ride to. Additionally, we are
working with Paul and Marge Breitigam selling meat sticks
for the Chapter Fundraiser. This years flavors are Sweet
BBQ, Bold Teriyaki, Hot Cajun, Original Smoked Hickory, Country Delight, Pepperoni,
Garlic and for Al, Old #9. These will be sold for $1.00 each and will be available at the
January meeting. You may pay for them when you pick them up or if you take an quantity
to sell, pay for them after you sell them. Stay warm and safe and we hope to see everyone at
the meeting.

DISTRICT EDUCATOR OHIO - GWRRA
BILL AND PAT STILES
Welcome to 2020
I want to thank Linda Copeland, Dale
Bratton and me for stepping up to be their respective
Chapter Skills Enhancement Advisor (CSEA).
I am asking you to investigate being your Chapter’s CSEA.
You ask what exactly is the CSEA? In short it is to
proactively support Member/Participant by providing them
with information they can consider on ways to become
skilled, prepared and safer riders and co-riders.
Let’s explore a bit deeper, what are the encouraged
responsibilities: Serve as an example by being actively engaged in the Levels
Program.
• Monthly, or as often as possible and weather permitting based on Members interest,
put on an on-bike skills day with skill practice, bike games for riders and co-riders.
• Team with the Chapter Ride Coordinator to promote the importance of best riding
practices at chapter gatherings, rides and events.
• Utilize the quarterly Chapter Levels Report provided by the District Educator to
support the Members and assist them in achieving milestones and earning recognition.
• Communicate directly with the District Educator to advocate for classes and courses
to serve any chapter participant with an interest in progressing in the levels program,
becoming proficient rider and being better prepared to respond to emergency situations.
You ask are there any qualifications and skills required to hold this Chapter Staff Position.
Here are all the bullet points to be considered:
• is not an officer; and the position is not mandatory.
• has a basic knowledge of the GWRRA Rider Education Program
• is appointed by the Chapter Director
• is interviewed by the District Educator
• completes a Confidentiality Agreement
• is a current Level II Rider or Co-Rider
• receives guidance and support from the District Educator
• communicates with the District Educator directly, keeping the Chapter Director in
the loop to assure the needs of the chapter participants are met. Remember, the Chapter
8
Skill Enhancement Adviser is an active participant on the Chapter staff and primary
direction comes from the Chapter Director
• does not have access to the RE database and relies on the District Educator for the
information.
In short, the Goal of this position is to provide the membership with the basic support
needed to participate meaningfully and successfully in the GWRRA Rider Education
Program at the Chapter level.
Most of the information I have provided here comes from a GWRRA document that I can
provide when asked.
This is your direct link from the Chapter to the District Educator to review and plan
educational activities. As well as working with your chapter members as they work their
way through the Levels Program.
Are you the ONE to be your Chapter’s CSEA?
Here is to a Wonderful 2020 Riding Season.

2019 COUPLE OF THE YEAR
CHARLIE & PHYLLIS BARNETTE
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We were shocked and honored to be named Chapter
B Couple for 2020, as there are so many others that are
more worthy. “ We thank you!”
Just a little about ourselves: We’ve been with the Chapter since 1983.
We’ve traveled to 48 states on our cycle/s. We had our 2008 GW triked last year. We
would never have been all these places or met all these wonderful people, if we had not
purchased our first Gold Wing and joined GWRRA and Chapter B. We have two married
adult children and four grandchildren.
We are truly Blessed.
Our former Pastor once told us (When we were in Arizona)........
“BE BLESSED ......... BE A BLESSING”
We have no trouble being Blessed, but to be a Blessing.... that takes work on
our part. We are striving to do that.
Pray you have a Happy and Healthy New Year.
Charlie and Phyllis
NEWSLETTER EDITORS
JIM AND CAROL CULLER
We would like congratulate Charlie & Phyllis for being
nominated and accepting to be Chapter B’s Couple of the
Year. They have been very loyal and committed members
as long as we can remember. They were part of the
original Chapter B Members , when the Chapter began, and have always been devoted to
making our Chapter a success. As all of our members are, they are wonderful, caring
people and are always there to volunteer whenever the Chapter needs help. As we have
said many, many times; our Chapter would not be what it is today without the members we
have accumulated throughout the years. As, we are sure most of you would agree, our
Chapter Members are more like family.
See you Soon, Jim & Carol
