GWA Board Meeting held on Thursday 19 June 2014 6

The implementation of the WAG Australian Levels Program is likely to have an effect on the GWA calendar, planning, staffing structure, club structures, capacity of states and GA to facilitate, event structure and financial implications when WA moves across to the new program.

RG met with Heidi Rose (WAG TC Director) and discussed setting up a WAG Implementation Committee to move forward in this space to look at possible events for the WAG community.

A financial committee needs to be set up to complete a financial analysis and identify gaps before the program can commence in WA.

Nationally, it has been agreed that there will be a National approach when initially going out to the clubs and members. One of the major points to come out of the meeting was the decision from GA to implement the program in 2015. This will only occur if all resources, capabilities of GA and the States to facilitate the program are ready to go out to the community.

Australian Championships # 1 The GWA Board noted the following:

2014 Australian Championships #1 was held in May.

A full report will be provided for the next GWA Board Meeting.

WA Teams had a successful tour.

From an organisational point of view, issues arose from the lateness in receiving information, in particular the training schedules for each Gymsport.

Communication processes need to be improved as at times this greatly impacted the planning of the trip.

There were three withdrawals from the team through injury.

Coach and Athlete Surveys were distributed via the GWA Website as part of GWA’s review of the event.

The State Team Review Meeting for Head Coaches and Team Management Staff is being held on 16th June.

Initial Feedback from Week 2 is that everyone was very happy with the services provided by Catriona Cowden (WA team medic) during Australian Championships. RG will pass their feedback to Catriona and thank her for her support of the WA team in 2014.

8.1.2 Events

Chetkovich Cup

The Team Selection Meeting is scheduled for 25th June and invitations have been circulated to selected athletes, reserve athletes, coaches, sponsors, Steve and Liz Chetkovich, Allana Slater, Board Members, potential judges.

MAG Assessment Day and WAG Badge Testing At the commencement of 2014 both the above were targeted as being Class 7 Events (Sanctioned Badge Testing Events) as per the requirements in the GWA Events Policy. 8.1.3.5 AER

Technical Committee The Technical Committee Meeting on 29th April was not attended by either the Technical Director (Kieran) nor Judging Coordinator (Debbs) and therefore this left only 4 people attending the meeting – a fact that was made more challenging by the issue for three of them that this was their very first TC meeting. As a result, it was very difficult for issues regarding events and education courses, an area of concern for AER at the moment, to be addressed. Shortly after the meeting, Debbs van Hagen resigned from the AER TC, leaving only Kieran Gorman with any great technical knowledge about the sport on the TC.
