1. Introduction

This document explains the process to configure the use of remote shares with a GV File install on a Windows 64-bit operating system.

Important!!

In order for a GV File installation to access remote shares, the logon account for the GV File host machine (GV File Node, GV File Watcher, GV File browser) must be Administrator or a member of the administrators group, and have necessary access rights to the remote shares.

The GV File services are intentionally designed to run as Windows services. The primary benefit to software running as a service rather than an application is that the user does not need to be logged onto the machine for the software to be available. This is particularly desirable in when use in remote installations such as data centres.

2. Configuring Remote Shares

There are three GV File services that must be configured:

GV File Node

GV File Watcher

GV File Browser

The other services can be left alone as per default installation.

Note:

The GV File Node maybe being run as an ‘Application’ rather than a ‘Service’. In this case it will not be listed in the services.

So as long as the logged in account has the necessary access rights to the remote share then the GV File Node will be able to read and write to the storage.

2.1 Select User Account

Harmonize a user account and password which has Administration rights for the GV File host and all remote

shares with the appropriate access rights.

This example uses the account Administrator. However it would usually be another account that is one of

the “allowed users” on the remote shares/storage, which is dictated by internal IT department.

Note that it can be another account but that account must be part of the same Administrators group as the GV File Server and ideally an account where the password does not expire.

3. Confirm that the host machine where the Remote Share is located, is contactable from the GV File host

machine (try pinging it).
