ARENA FOOTBALL

The final week of the season was this past weekend, and it broke down like this: Pittsburgh dropped a decision to Jacksonville 39-64, Cleveland defeated Chicago 60-54, New Orleans lost 48-55 to Georgia, Iowa edged San Antonio 66-63, Arizona got a 47-22 over Kansas City, Spokane beat out Tampa Bay 63-53, Orlando defeated Milwaukee 49-39, and Philadelphia got a 69-34 win over Utah. The play-offs begin this weekend, with the National Conference seeing San Antonio Talons V Utah Blaze , & the Arizona Rattlers V the San Jose Sabrecats. In the American Conference, the Philadelphia Soul V the New Orleans Voodoo, & the Jacksonville Sharks V the Georgia Force. AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL

In round 17 of the AFL this past week, there were centuries a plenty. The Geelong Cats got a 20.14.134-10.7.67 win over the Essendon Bombers. The Collingwood Magpies dropped a 13.13.91-12.12.138 decision to the Hawthorn Hawks. A big win for the Crows, as Adelaide defeated the West Coast Eagles 19.10.124-11.9.75. The Gold Coast Suns season was in big trouble, and with a 5.18.48-8.11.59 loss to the Brisbane Lions, they are now out of the play-off picture. The Western Bulldogs also suffered a loss, 12.12.84-16.6.102 to the Carlton Blues. The Melbourne Demons kept more than slim play-off hopes alive despite a 8.8.56-12.12.84 loss to the Port Adelaide Power. The Sydney Swans kept making big noise in the league with a 15.15.105-10.16.76 win over the St. Kilda Saints. The Richmond Tigers dropped a 14.15.99-15.13.103 decision to the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Finally, the Fremantle Dockers ended the Giants play-off chase with a 18.24.132-5.7.37 win over Greater Western Sydney. The ladder after 17 of 24 rounds looks like this: The Sydney Swans & Adelaide Crows are on 52 points in the lead. SUPER RUGBY

The play-offs in Super 15 started on Saturday with the qualifying finals. The first game saw the Crusaders (NWZ) defeat the Bulls (RSA) 28-13. In the second game, the Reds (AUS) suffered a home loss to the Sharks (RSA) 17-30. This coming weekend the 1/2 finals begin. The matchups look like this: Chiefs (NWZ) V Crusaders (NWZ) at the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton, New Zealand, and the Stormers (RSA) V Sharks (RSA) at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa. CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

In the CFL, week 4 played over the last few days. In the first game this last week, the Toronto Argonauts got back to even, with a 25-22 win over the still winless Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Calgary Stampeders came back from a huge deficit in the second half to defeat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 41-38 in overtime. In the third game, the BC Lions dropped a home decision 14-27 to the Edmonton Eskimos. In the final game of the week, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats got a 39-24 over the Montreal Alouettes. Hamilton, Toronto, & Montreal all sit 2-2 in the East Division, with Winnipeg at 0-4. In the West, Saskatchetan & Edmonton are 3-1 with Calgary & BC at 2-2. Week 5 has all eight teams in action again. MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

The Major Leagues Hall of Fame inducted 2 new members on Sunday. The BBWAA vote saw Barry Larkin inducted, with 495 votes or 86.4%. 13 players will return to the 2013 ballot, these include Jack Morris, Jeff Bagwell, Lee Smith, Tim Raines, Alan Trammell, Edgar Martínez, Fred McGriff, Larry Walker, Mark McGwire, Don Mattingly, Dale Murphy, Rafael Palmeiro, & Bernie Williams. A further 13 players were eliminated from future voting, but are still eligible for veterans committee consideration, they are Juan González, Vinny Castilla, Tim Salmon, Bill Mueller, Brad Radke, Javy López, Eric Young, Jeromy Burnitz, Brian Jordan, Terry Mulholland, Phil Nevin, Rubén Sierra, & Tony Womack. The veterans committee inducted ron santo with 93.8% of the votes, ahead of such names as Jim Kaat, Gil Hodges, Minnie Minoso, & Tony Oliva, among others.

In the NPB here are the standings after roughly 82 games played. FORMULA 1

Round 10, the Grosser Preis Santander von Deutschland ran Sunday, and Fernando Alonso (ESP) won with a time of 1:31:05.862. Jenson Alonso (GBR) was +6.9 back with Kimi Raikkonen (FIN) +16.4 back to round out the podium. Kaumi Kobayashi, Sebastien Vettel, Sergio Perez, Michael Schumacher, Mark Webber, Nico Hulkenberg, & Nico Rosberg round out the points scoring drivers (in order). The driver’s championship looks like this with 10 races to go, Alonso is leading the championship with 154 points. Webber is on 120 points, with Vettel on 110, Raikkonen on 98, and Hamilton on 92 to round out the top 5. The constructor’s championship sees Red Bull-Renault on 230 points in the lead. Ferrari has 177 points in 2nd, McLaren-Mercedes at 160 points for 3rd, Lotus-Renault at 159 points to sit 4th, and Mercedes on 105 to sit 5th. The next race is round 11, the Formula 1 Eni Magyar Nagygij, the Hungarian Grand Prix Sunday at the Hungaroring in Budapest.

TOUR DE FRANCE

The Tour ended Sunday, the 18th of 29 races in the UCI World Tour. Here are the final top 3 in all classifications. Starting with the Malliot Jaune, the yellow jersey, Bradley Wiggins (GBR) of Team Sky took the overall win with a time of 87:34:47, +3:21 ahead of teammate Chris Froome (GBR). Vincenzo Nibali (ITA) was third out of the Liquigas-Cannondale team, +6:19 back. The Malliot Vert, the green jersey, Peter Sagan (SVK) of the Liquigas-Cannondale team won with 421 points. Andre Greipel (GER) from team Lotto-Belisol was runner-up with 280 points. Matthew Goss (AUS) out of the Orica-GreenEDGE team was third with 268 points. In the Malliot a pois Rouges race, the king of the mountain jersey. Thomas Voeckler (FRA) of Team Europcar took the jersey with 135 points. Fredrik Kessiakoff (SWE) from team Astana was second with 123. Chris Anker Sorensen (DEN) with Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank finished third with 77 points. The Malliot Blanc, or young rider jersey went to Tejay can Garderen (USA) of the BMC Racing Team with a total time of 87:45:46. Thibault Pinot (FRA) from FDJ-BigMat was runner-up, +6:13 back. Steven Kruijswijk (NED) from team Rabobank was third, +1:05:48 back. In the team classification, team RadioShack-Nissan took the win with a total time of 263:12:01, +5:54 ahead of Team Sky. BMC Racing Team was third, 36:36 back.

The main event #61 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, and the

“October Nine” has been decided. After 6,598 players from 82 countries aged between 21–92

started play, Gaelle Baumann of France was eliminated in 10th place, leaving us to wait 7 weeks,

GuojiSport recognizes the greatest athletes, officials, & builders in the world of sports with

the GuojiSport Hall of Fame. Last year, we inducted 30 members to establish the hall. As per

by request of many of the shows listeners, the shortlist has been posted on the Facebook page.

Voting ends August 31, and the induction is set for October, details to come.
