capaces de ofrecer otras soluciones que no sean parches o recetas con los mismos modelos, apenas disimulados, que han causado la crisis global, la propuesta de Gunter Pauli desprende el aroma de lo revolucionario y lo posible a la vez. Revolucionario porque va más allá de dos modelos que se han revelado inefi caces: la economía fi nancie-ra, basada en el crédito y la deuda, y la «economía verde», que trata de preservar el medio ambiente a costa de grandes inversiones que la vuelven inviable. La «economía azul» parte de una premisa sencilla: servirse del conocimiento acumulado durante millones de años por la naturaleza para alcanzar cada vez mayores niveles de efi cacia, respe-tando el medio y creando riqueza, y traducir esa lógica del ecosiste-ma al mundo empresarial.

Pauli sugiere estimulantes posibilidades: desde aplicar el diseño bico-lor de la piel de las cebras o la estructura de los termiteros a la arqui-tectura bioclimática, a teléfonos móviles que se recargan sin batería gracias a la diferencia de temperatura entre el aparato y el cuerpo humano, pasando por la reutilización de los desechos mineros o agrí-colas. Presentado como informe para el Club de Roma, La economía azul expone cien iniciativas empresariales innovadoras que pueden generar cien millones de empleos en los próximos diez años: inno-vaciones reales, científi camente contrastadas y económicamente via-bles, algunas llevadas ya a la práctica, que señalan una vía alternativa hacia un mundo mejor.

GUNTER PAULI (Amberes, 1956) se licenció en Económicas por la Universidad de Loyola en Bélgica y obtuvo un MBA en el INSEAD francés. Este polifacético empresario y prolífi co escritor, que ha vivido en Francia, Suecia, Estados Unidos y Japón, impulsor de varias iniciativas empresariales de gran éxito y miembro de prestigiosas instituciones internacionales, fundó en 1994, con el apoyo del gobierno japonés y la United Nations University en Tokio, la Zero Emissions Research Initiative. De su experiencia como empresario y de sus refl exiones teóricas surgió un modelo de negocio que primaba, desde presupuestos éticos y científi cos, la creación de capital social y el respeto al medio ambiente sin descuidar el benefi cio económico, tomando como referencia los ecosistemas naturales.
