Welcome to Oklahoma City!

We are thrilled to host you for the 78th Annual Meeting of the U.S. Conference of

Mayors. We know you will find our city a productive place to conduct the important business of USCM. We know you will also enjoy the social activities that we have planned during your visit. Oklahoma City is a unique place, where urban sophistication meets prairie values. Our city was founded in a land run in 1889, and became the capital of our brand new state exactly 100 years ago this week. We are young, but we have moved fast, and now boast one of the country’s strongest economies, the nation’s newest NBA team, and a slew of ongoing public and private developments downtown. As you make your way around, you will see a few cranes and street detours, but I know this is one audience that appreciates progress. Again, welcome. On behalf of the people of Oklahoma City, we are proud to host you, eager to tell you our story, and anxious for the memories you will leave us with.

Sincerely,Mick CornettMayor, Oklahoma City

With a downtown urban renaissance and shimmering riverfront, a burgeoning art scene and world-class museums; the flavors of the world and the comforts of home are alive in Oklahoma City. Our hip and spirited environment blends with a deep western heritage, creating a place where culture and commerce thrive. With renowned festivals, national sporting events, treasure-filled museums and a variety of districts highlighting arts, entertainment, history and diversity, the possibilities for adventure and fun in Oklahoma City are endless!

Downtown Oklahoma CityDowntown Oklahoma City reverberates with the energy of commerce by day and the rhythms of entertainment by night. Explore the many museums, walk through parks, or stop for coffee or lunch at one of the many restaurants and cafés around the district.

Staying in the heart of the city has many advantages. Several arts venues and museums are within walking distance of downtown hotels, including the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. Experience this peaceful monument that pays tribute to those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever by the April 19, 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The interactive memorial

learning museum offers visitors from around the world comfort and hope. The museum, and outdoor memorial with its reflecting pool, gives pause to all who visit and provides important insights through special exhibits.

Adjacent to downtown Oklahoma City is the fastest-growing entertainment district in the Southwest – Bricktown. With its large concentration of high-energy night clubs, casual lounges and list of restaurants covering a multitude of culinary cultures, Bricktown has something for every taste. And, when you factor in its picturesque setting, embracing a mile-long canal lined with eateries, clubs, a movie theatre, a bowling lounge, the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark and beautifully landscaped gardens and public art, you’ll discover something the whole family can enjoy!

Vibrant melodies can be heard coming from the American Banjo Museum and the Academy of Contemporary Music, the newest additions to the district. Shop or watch the fish swim in the museum-like setting of Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. Take the Water Taxi cruise along the canal and discover the history of this energetic district. Or hail a pedicab or one of several horse-drawn carriages that can be seen ferrying customers all over Bricktown. It’s the perfect place for you to choose your own adventure.

The Oklahoma River is fast becoming one of the world’s premier venues for rowing and canoe/kayak. The river’s Boathouse District includes the Chesapeake Boathouse and, now under construction, the Devon Boathouse – home of the Oklahoma City University Rowing – and the Chesapeake Finish Line Tower. Each year the river is site of numerous regattas and is now a U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Site.
