Dear Parents and Community,
The end of 2012 has arrived and we all look forward
to 2013. While the young hope that time flies by the
older people are waiting for time to stand still.
Congratulations to those students who received
awards at our Presentation Day. Students were
recognised not only for their academic and sporting
success but also their determination and cooperation
in achieving what they have done. There are many
wonderful staff and students at Gunnedah High
School, Presentation Day is just one day where they
shine. The recognition of these students needs to
become a common occurrence at our school. I
receive at least one email a week which recognises
and applauds the polite spirit of students at
Gunnedah High School. I should have made the
effort to publicise these students and their wonderful
character. Perhaps that is something that will occur
from now on. To recognise and praise the efforts of
our students who are positive, respectful and co-
operative. Gunnedah High School is flowing over
with students who have the capability and capacity to
do extremely well. I look forward to the day when
Gunnedah High is recognised for the wonderful
students who are educated at our school.
I leave Gunnedah to take up my new appointment in
Moree next year. I hope those students who are so
positive, determine the future reins and results at
Gunnedah High
School. Thank you
to parents, staff and
students who have
made my stay
enjoyable. Respect
is a value that will
ensure success in
the future.
Hilton Humphries, Principal.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH
On Friday 30th November, students in the Support
Class prepared a Christmas Lunch that was attended
by teachers who have helped during the year. For the
week leading up to the luncheon we put up the tree,
shopped, prepared and cooked, all in preparation for
the big day. Our organisation made sure that
everything was done on
time.
One of the highlights was the visit from Santa Claus
(who looked a lot like Mr. Humphries). All the
students were fantastic hosts and teachers
commented on how much fun they had.
This was my last project as the teacher of the
Gunnedah High School Support Class. I would like to
thank all of my students both past and present, it has
been a very enriching six years as your teacher. I am
very proud of the adults you are all becoming and I
will miss you next year. Keep up the good work and
remember that famous quote “Always Make Learning
Your First Priority.”

YEAR 11 MULTIMEDIA CL AYMATIO N
Mrs. Curtis’ Year 11 Multimedia class has produced
some fantastic nursery rhyme themed claymations
(animations made out of clay) for their assessment
task this term. A variety of coloured clay was used to
create characters and different coloured paints and
paper were used to design scenic backgrounds. To
make the claymation, students patiently took a
number of photos of their clay characters while slowly
moving each character between each photo. These
photos were then imported into Adobe Flash or
Window’s Movie Maker with a sound track of the
nursery rhyme. The photos were then played at a fast
rate to give the illusion that they are moving.

YEAR 7 C UL TURAL EXCU RS IO N
Last Thursday, students from Mrs. Hill’s and Ms
Wood’s Year 7
classes went to
Pensioner’s Hill to
learn more about
the geography and
history of the area.
Mr. de Groot
assisted by driving
students in the
school bus to the venue.
The students were able to explore the Pensioner’s
Hill Sculpture Project. This project was made
possible by the support of Gunnedah Shire Council,
BHP Billiton, Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group, Red
Chief Lands Council, Namoi Valley Independent,
Josh and Belinda’s Takeaway, and CT and JM Sills.
The stones were
erected by the Rotary
Club of Gunnedah
West and the statues
were carved by Carl
Merten and Joan
Reike to reflect some
of the Aboriginal and
European cultural heritage of the district. At the start
of the excursion, Mr. Hans Allgayer explained the
significance of the different sculptures and their
connection to Aboriginal culture, agriculture, mining
and the lives of the early
pioneer families. Students
then investigated the site and
completed a worksheet.
Community Elder, Mrs. May
Griffiths then shared her
memories of life on
Pensioner’s Hill and stories
about the Depression with
the students. Students had
the opportunity to ask
questions of Mrs. Griffiths about her childhood
experiences.
Students then shared
in a BBQ kindly
organised by Mrs.
Lickorish and Mrs.
Cunningham.
The Year 7 students would like to thank all of those
people who made the excursion such an enjoyable
experience. Mrs. G. Hill.
