KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION EVENING Last Thursday evening our school hosted an information evening for those interested in starting school at Gundagai Public next year. It was a great night and a fantastic opportunity for those who attended to meet our wonderful staff and find out about many of the exciting and innovative programs the school has to offer. It was also an evening where we met some very excited children who are ready to begin Kindergarten and their supportive families. Our next Orientation morning will be held on Friday 9th November commencing at 9.30 am.

MATHEMATICS ENRICHMENT This year 26 Gundagai Public School students competed in the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiad and Games teams. Over the course of Term 3 and 4, our budding mathematicians’ lateral thinking was put to the test across five different assessments.

Outstandingly, Claire Lindley, Deanna Smith, Clarity Glazebrook, Bailey Piper, Gus Pollack, Nicholas Tait and Archie Wheaton all placed in the top 2% of the 13967 students that took part in the Maths Games program, while James Bartlett, Nicholas McMurray, Amity Robb, Chloe Ryan, Cayden Wescombe achieved a top 10% finish. Wade Foster finished in the top 20% and Logan Jones the top 25%. Claire Lindley, Deanna Smith, Bailey Piper, Nicholas Tait and Archie Wheaton also received Maths Star awards for their outstanding achievements this year.

Our Maths Olympiad team was not to be outdone, with 10 of 12

members all placing in the top 2% of the 33,278 students from over Australasia. Congratulations to Bindi Crane, William Murphy, Madison Smith, Tiarna Carberry, Mia Doughty, Riley Elliott, Hunter Field, Joseph Polsen, Halle Smart and Shaun Smith for their unbelievable efforts. Abe Cotterill and Jayda Field completed the outstanding team performance by placing in the top 10%. Bindi Crane, William Murphy and Madison Smith were awarded trophies for the highest individual scores, with the trio each only getting one incorrect response

across all five assessments. Bindi was also awarded a special certificate for her dedication, enthusiasm and leadership during the competition.

Our Maths Olympiad Team also showed how kids from the country can match it with the big schools in the city by finishing an astonishing 10th out 1438 teams. For this achievement they were awarded an outstanding achievement plaque and really demonstrated that a champion team can rise above and compete with some of the biggest school across Australia and the Asian Pacific. What an achievement.
