Guilin is a town located northwest of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China. It is located on the west bank of the Lijiang River, in an area of mountains covered with vegetation that give the city a special beauty. In 1981 the Chinese government decreed that Guilin should receive special protection in order to preserve its rich landscape.
