How many devices do you have with you
today?https://www.mentimeter.com/p/88e3e31f00a9/how-many-
electronic-devices-do-you-have-with-you-tonight-as-a-family
Do you use your devices every day and feel weird if
you forget them?
Is there a technology device that makes
something better in your life?
A recent birthday party photo…
But it’s not just the kids…!
my own family at a Christmas get together
And the use of technology for learning and
communication is getting younger and
younger…
Our digital world needs good digital citizens!
When we give teens keys to an automobile, aren't
we making sure that they have learned the safety
rules?
Would you give your child the keys to a Ferrari when
learning to drive?
Would you give them an unlimited gas card and keys to the car immediately after they
received a license to drive - with no parameters, rules of the road
or lessons to operate it safely and securely?
However, many adults !
(parents & educators
included) give children access
to the digital highway without
many skills to navigate it ...
How do we teach the rules of the digital road?
Good digital citizens don’t just “happen”.!!
There is a role for educators, parents, and students!
A good digital citizen is: !
SAFE!RESPONSIBLE!RESPECTFUL
You are working on a project with someone else
who is your friend - Is it safe to share your log on and password with them?
•Do create passwords with at least 8 characters •Do use a combination of letters, numbers, & symbols •Do share your password with your parents only. •Do change your password regularly. !
•Don't give a password to someone else - even a friend •Don't use private information in your password. •Don't use a word in the dictionary as your password •Don't include personal information in your password
STRONG PASSWORDS
Do you know someone who has had their
personal information stolen on line or they have
been tricked on a website?!
!
Turn and talk about it.
Who wants to win a trip to Disneyworld?!
Facebook scam example Some people call these folks: face crooks
Personal Information Online!!
Watch out for: !
Identity Theft Phishing
• type of crime where private information in stolen & used for criminal activity
Identity Theft
• When people send phony emails, popup messages, text in order to hook you into giving out personal or financial information
Phishing
Ask an adult before you give your personal information on line!
Just like you shouldn't share a toothbrush, you
shouldn't share your personal information
online without talking with a trusted adult!
When going places online...!
1) Ask your parent first!2) Only talk to people you know!3) Stick to places just right for you

Two Stories!!
One with a positive digital
footprint !
One with a negative
digital footprint
There was lots of online chatter about this situation…
http://youtu.be/79IYZVYIVLA
• Google search yourself • Change passwords - and
make sure they are strong! • Make sure Instagram/
Facebook (parents) password is different than all others
What do I need to do to be aware of my digital footprint?
When you delete a picture or words from your screen or your account, is it really
gone?
Digital information is! PERMANENT.
Digital items cannot be written in pencil - they
are written in Sharpie ink.
Digital information cannot be controlled.
