Orheiul Vechi is considered an open book of the history as it is one of the most famous zones that convey vestiges of different civilizations’ establishment on the territory between the Prut and Nistru.

The complex encloses two big nazes (Pestera and Butuceni) and three small ones (Potarca, Selitra and Scoc), on which territory there are ruins of some fortifications, houses, baths, sanctuaries (including cave monasteries) dating both from the Tatar-Mongolian (XIII-XIV centuries) and Moldovan (XV-XVI centuries) periods.

Each cave monastery had church, anexed cells necessary to a monastic institution –all dug in the limestoned rocks of thecuspate clift.

Tipova cave monastery is situatednear the locality with the same name, Tipova Monastery is one of the oldestmonasteries in the Republic of Moldova. The monastery is spaded in stone on thebunch of Nistru River. The monastic complex portrays an image of an impressive museum.

Saharna-The monastery complex issituated in one of the most picturesque

gorges near Saharna village, The river Saharna and numerous streams flowing into it form 22 cascades, which made Saharna a kind of Mecca for local and foreign tourists. An archeological site of the Iron Age and a well-preserved geto-dac fortress attract lots of tourists, as well.

The scientific reserve “Plaiul Fagului” constitutes a natural picturesque landscape object, a valuable thesaurus of the Moldova nature. The reserve’s territory is partially accessible for the ecotourism. Primarily, this complex of natural diverse ecosystems is a research object and a laboratory in open air.

Scientific Reserve Padurea DomneascaScientific Reserve Padurea DomneascaPadurea Domneasca Scientific Reserve - A special

value is conferred to the reserve by the surface of 40 ha covered by centurial oaks aging more than 200-250 years, some of which records a height of about 30-35 m. Here the most vigorous centurial oak from Moldova is located (450 years old, height – more than 35 m and the length of the trunk circumference at the level of human height – over 9 m). In the reserve there isestablished a yard of 32 ha with

three bisons (one male and two females),that is a superb touristic attraction.

They plan to expand the territory of thereserve forest sector to host about 15-17

bisons.

Picturesque reserve “At the castle”

Situated in the basin of the Racovat River, the complex includes the “Gordinesti” forest parcel and the “Stinca” forest massive, sheltering in its area rare species of wild flora and fauna. As the time went by, the complex name was object of numerous legends and songs dedicated to Racovat and to the reserve. Its name could be related to a love story. A castle disappeared long time ago and replaced by giant rocks. That is why the stone looks like medieval castles or Dacic fortresses walls.Natural Monument ”Butesti keys”The limestones of this unique

formation are penetrated by thousand of minor and majorgrots and caves, which served as shelter for animals in the Ice Age and human in the pre-historicalperiod.

Duruitoarea cloveThe Grote “Old Duruitoarea” is known as a renowned human

settlement of the Squared Stone Epoch. As a result of numerous archeological excavations there were discovered fossil specimens of the Ice Age and vestiges of pre-historical cultural that made it popular in the entire world. Next to the clove the lake Costesti-Stinca is located. This is the greatest accumulation lake of the Republic of Moldova, built in the North-Eastern part of the country in the North of the Moldova Plain. During summertime the visitors can enjoy improvised beaches, boat navigation along the lake and fishing.

Natural Monument “Big Rock”is the most southern geological monument, dating 15 million years ago and is part of the coral bureau of the Middle Prut. The stack from the Butesti village looks like an exotic island in

the middle of agricultural lots, being interesting from several points of view: geologic, paleontological, floristic, zoological and archeological one.

Natural Monument ”One hundred hillocks”This is a minor, but rather captivating natural subunit situated between the Branesti and Cobani villages at the distance of 200 km from Chisinau that is a unique phenomenon in the area between the Prut and Nistru. In fact there are more that one hundred hillocks here – about 3 500. Their height varies between 1.5 and 30.5 m (the last one isnamed “The Gipsy hillock”). On the left bank of the Middle Prut “One hundred hillocks” are looking forward to being visited by you in each season.
