This guideline will help you prepare an appropriate CV, a bio-data or the resume for a JOB - Interview. These guidelines are targeted for students and other young applicants. This guide also helps you to write a covering letter of a CV.

• The Latin acronym CV expands to Curriculum Vitae. This translates to “Course of [my] Life”.

• The word “resume” or “bio-data” is interchangeably used for a CV.

• CV is a basic information about a person in relation to a context:– For Employment.– For Match Making.– For Introduction at an event.– For Capability Depiction for a business

empanelment or other proposal• CV sells you just like a product

brochure. Don’t hesitate to accept this fact.

Types of CVs• Chronological CV.

Follows the standard structure, but it gives details of educational qualifications, work experience etc. in order of dates.

• Functional CV.Follows the initial standard, but it depicts the function wise work experience. For example work experience of Marketing, Quality assurance, Production shall be separately explained.

• Project wise CV.This type of CV is often used to apply for team leadership position, where you give details of clients, project names, team details, team role and project work details.

• Targeted CV.In this case main CV is customised for the job you are applying for.

The basic Structure - 1• Personal Contact Details.

Name, Address, Phone, Email shall be given here. Photo shall be provided, when asked.

• A brief about Yourself and suitability for different type of jobs. This may also be replaced by a clause called career objective.

• Skills. The skill areas you have been educated and/or you have experience on.

• Work Experience.This section is presented reverse chronologically or provided as project names.

The basic Structure - 2• Special Trainings.

This shall be highlighted specially if it is relevant to type of employment you are applying for. Details of training content may also be given.

• Academic Qualifications. You generally need to begin with most relevant qualifications. The scores shall be given if they are not too low. Year wise/semester wise subjects/marks shall be avoided, unless desired by some employer.

• Awards/Professional Membership/Publications etc. This useful for senior positions.

The basic Structure - 3• Other Personal Details

This is include details about parents, brother sister, marital status, spouse details, hobbies etc..

• References This should include names of the people who can provide good feedback about you. Past employer bosses may only be given if you really had excellent relationship. Past training heads and other known people of status are useful.

• Self Certification:For correctness of Information, along with signature, date and place.

Project wise CV• Project details shall be

given as follows.– Project Name– Team Members– Team Role– Project Brief– Your Work Details

• Recent or Relevant Projects shall be given first.

Targeted CV• For a Software Developer.

– Necessarily provide popular technology Keywords.

– Total Work experience duration shall be provided.

– Project names shall clearly mention popular domain names. For example the word e-learning shall be preferred over computer based learning

• For a Marketing Person.– Sales Target achieved shall be given. – Type of customers shall be given.– Type various assignments shall be

provided.

• For a Teacher.– Total work experience is required.– Standard Subject Streams taught or

capability to talk shall be provided.– Capability to create material shall be

highlighted.– Ability to use modern techniques shall be

presented.
