Them From Credit Card Fraud

Everyone knows it, and people who use the internet regularly have learned to avoid the most common

online scams./

Unfortunately scammers have learned that while their tricks may not work on the average internet

user.

Here are a few tips you can share with the senior citizens in your

life!

Make sure they understand that they should never respond to people they don’t know who are desperate for help.

There are a lot of free software on the net. Unfortunately they are usually bundled with additional software that will report back to the owners of the software credit card numbers, bank logins etc

DO NOT let that site scan their computer. It will create a back door into their computer or load a key logger onto their computer and every time they login to a site they will expose their passwords to the scam artist.

Is that email really from their bank, or is it part of some phishing scheme?

Make sure they understand that the only time you put your credit card number into a website is if you see the https: in front of the url.

Many credit card companies have a service where you can give them all your credit card numbers and if your credit cards get stolen or you see unusual activity on a card you can call 1 number and all cards get cancelled.

Sign them up for a credit monitoring service or if they don’t’ apply for credit a lot, they may want to go with a credit freeze.

A new fraud going around targeted towards the elderly is an email or letter supposedly sent from the tax assessors office.

It will encourage them to use their “approved” service for a reverse mortgage.
