Guide to the Applicant’s Experience

Objectives

The purpose of this module is to guide Recruiters through the applicant’s experience when applying for MCCS positions via the MCCS Careers application process. Before You Begin You must have the following: MCCS Careers URL – https://careers.usmc-mccs.org

When to Use When needing to better understand the application process and to assist applicants

applying to MCCS positions.

Steps for External Applicants Step 1: Enter the following URL link into the address bar on Internet Explorer. https://careers.usmc-mccs.org/ Step 2: External applicants must select the green Prospective Employees button.

Step 3: This will take applicants to the Careers page where they can register as a New User.

Step 4: The applicant must complete the registration process before they can apply to MCCS Positions.

They must use a valid email address to create a User Name. All automated recruiting notifications

will be emailed during the recruiting process.

The applicant must complete their Name, Email and should provide their phone number.

Then select Register.

The applicant must create a password using the specified criteria.

Steps for Internal Applicants Internal applicants are MCCS Employees who are currently working for MCCS. When they are seeking new MCCS job opportunities within the organization they will access the MCCS Careers page by logging into their PeopleSoft Self Service. NOTE: They may also apply by selecting the blue Current Employees button on the MCCS Careers page. Step 1: Enter the following URL link into the address bar on Internet Explorer. https://hrms.usmc-mccs.org Step 2: Log into Employee Self Service PeopleSoft account.

Step 3: If the employee is also a manager and has access to Manager Self Service, they will want to ensure they are under

the Employee Self Service Homepage by selecting Employee Self Service from the header drop down.

Step 4: By selecting the MCCS Careers tile on the Employee Self Service Homepage, the employee will be directed to the

MCCS Careers page where they will be automatically logged into their MCCS Careers account.

The Application Process Once the Internal/External applicant is logged in or registered, they can select View All Jobs to search for jobs via location or they can select a specific job opening from the defaulted search results.

After the applicant selects a job opening, the job description will display providing details of the opening, instruction on how to apply and if there are any required documents. At the bottom of this page after reading the job description, the applicant can select the Apply for Job button to begin the application process.

The application process consists of 10 steps. The applicant will need to complete the steps to successfully apply to the job opening.

In the first step, applicants must confirm they have read the terms and agreements by selecting the checkbox at the bottom of the page in order to continue. Once the applicant agrees to the terms they can select the Next button.

The next step of the application is the eligibility and Prequalifying page. The applicant must answer “Yes” to the question about being eligible to work in the United States in order to be eligible to continue with the application process. They must also be able to provide appropriate documentation to support their answer.

Once the applicant selects “Yes” they can select the Next button. They will automatically proceed to the next step. .

If the applicant answers “No” they will not be able to continue with the application. The applicant will receive notification that they are not eligible to apply to the job vacancy. Important – the applicant will not be able to reapply to the same position after selecting “No”.

In the next step the applicant can attach their resume within their application. If they have applied to previous MCCS job openings using a resume, they may select to use an existing resume.

Attaching a Resume If the applicant selects the Attach Resume button they will be able to attach a file document. NOTE: If the applicant is using a kiosk to apply to the vacancy, they will need to have access to the resume document

they want to upload.

Once the applicant finds and selects their document, they select the Upload button. This will upload their resume into the application.

Using an Existing Resume To use an existing resume the applicant can select from the list of their previously uploaded resumes.

Once their resume is uploaded, the applicant can select the Next button.

In the fourth step the applicant needs to complete their preferences for the job vacancy. They will also enter their Federal and Personal information.

The fifth step is where the applicant will enter their Education and Work Experience. If they have previous NAF or APF experience they can enter it here along with any specific licenses and certifications and skills required for the job.

The applicant will enter all their personal and professional References in step six.

The applicant must specify their referrals in step seven. These are required fields and must be completed by the applicant to continue with the application.

If additional screening questions have been added to the job vacancy, they will fall under the Questionnaire step. These questions and answers will assist the recruiter in screening the applicant pool.

In step nine, the applicant voluntarily self- identifies their Disability and their Race or Ethnicity or they can select the option to not to identify/decline to answer.

In the last step, the applicant can review and make necessary edits to their application and update their contact information. Once the applicant has reviewed their application and verified everything is correct, they can select Submit.

When the applicant successfully submits their application they will receive the following notification to let them know it has been successfully submitted. If the job vacancy contained an online screening Questionnaire, the Online Screening Results will display the applicant’s questionnaire results. Pass results: We are pleased to advise that the application you have submitted has been accepted for further consideration in terms of MCCS Recruitment policy.

Fail Results: MCCS wishes to advise that information contained in your application has been considered and evaluated. Your qualifications and or experience do not meet the requirements for this position. MCCS considers your application to be finalized and this application will receive no further consideration from MCCS.

The status of their application will display on the My Job Applications page. As the applicant proceeds through the Recruiting process, their application status will continue to update here.

NOTE: When an applicant selects “Save as Draft” during the application process or when an applicant’s application is not complete it goes into a draft status. If the applicant wants to go back and complete the application, they must go to the My Job Applications page and select the application. They will not be able to re-select the job vacancy from the search results since they have already started the application for that specific job opening.

Applicants with a registered Careers account will have active links that will help them do the following:

• View All Jobs - Search and apply for active MCCS job vacancies • My Job Notifications - Receive Notifications on Job Offers and Interviews • My Job Applications - Check the status of applications and review saved resumes and attachments • My Favorite Jobs – Save and refer to their favorite jobs • My Saved Searches - Save specific Job Searches • My Account Information – Review and update their Contact Information • How to Apply – Review the application process • MCCS Locations – Contact Us – MCCS command locations and their contact phone number and email address • Employment Process – Review the MCCS employment process • Technical Help – Frequently asked questions • Forms – MCCS Forms (i.e. Spouse Preference, OF306-Declaration for Federal Employment)
