Guide to Alarm/Immobilizer/CDL problems - Cobra 8186 Elise/Exige & 6422 Esprit Many alarm related question are repeatedly asked, therefore I have consolidated the most popular ones into this source. ELISE / EXIGE 2005 - 2007 - Cobra 8186 Symptom; Intermittent flashing Security/RPM light when engine is running. Probable Cause; This is not an alarm issue, it is loose or corroded battery terminals, (including the battery terminal adapters), or alternator connections. Solution; Check all connections for tightness and cleanliness. Symptom; LED on Wireless Remote Fob is on constantly. Cause; Low battery in the Remote Solution; Replace battery with a "CR2032". Symptom; The alarm/immobilizer/CDL does not respond to either remote key fob. Probable Cause; a) The remote has lost synchronization. b) Low remote battery, which would be indicated by constant illumination of the remote’s red LED c) Low voltage on vehicles battery. d) Fuses F7 or F11 blown Solution; a) Resynchronize the remotes. b) Replace remote battery. c) Test vehicle battery voltage and charge or replace as needed. d) Install Cobra Emergency Override Touch Key. Alarm/Immobilizer/CDL Emergency Overide REMOTE KEY FOB RESYNCHRONIZATION - WHEN EXISTING REMOTE CEASES TO WORK 1) Remove battery & wait 10 seconds before re-installing (re-sync can fail if this step is missed) 2) Hold down both buttons (LED will light) for approx.10 seconds until LED turns off. 3) Release both buttons and LED will turn on constantly. 4) Press large button for one second, LED will flash…re-sync complete

REPLACING THE CDL MODULEThe CDL module can be located by removing the start/light switch panel and pushing the foam back to expose the module. The easiest replacement solution is to pull the wiring harness plug on the defective module and plug it into the replacement unit. Using double sided tape, secure the new unit on top of the defective unit, which is now left in place.

Symptom; Constant buzz after the alarm is armed.Probable Cause;a) Door, front access panels or trunk/engine lid open.b) Interior light in center or up position.Solution; a) Disarm alarm and close the opening.b) Put light into down position

Symptom; Alarm triggeredProbable Cause; Defective, or over sensitive alarm sensor.Solution; Determine the cause by counting the number of blinks of the security LED & adjust the appropriate sensor.

Symptom; Interior Microwave sensor triggers alarm.Probable Cause; a) Environment too harsh (heavy rain, thunder etc). b) SensitivitySolution; a) Temporarily bypass Microwave by arming the alarm normally and then pressing the smaller “B” button twice within 20 seconds.b) Adjust sensitivity of Microwave by either removing interior rear bulkhead panel, or drill hole in panel to gain access to adjustment. Symptom; Alarm/Immobilizer/CDL can’t be deactivated.Cause; Loss of Remote Key FobsSolution; a) Open car door by looping a piece of cord around the interior door lock button and pulling it up. Now use alarm PIN code to deactivate system.b) Touch center white/orange wire of the Inertia Switch in engine bay to battery positive and door locks will open. Now use PIN code to deactivate system.c) Install Cobra Emergency Override Touch Key. Alarm/Immobilizer/CDL Emergency Overide

Symptom; Alarm/Immobilizer/CDL can’t be deactivated.Cause; Vehicle battery voltage too low.Solution; Apply power to the battery by jumping from another source

Symptom; Unlock doors with remote, button pops up, but doors will not openCause; Door lock cylinder has been turned to the vertical position.Solution; Using key, unlock doors by turning lock cylinder to the horizontal position.

Symptom; Inability to program Remote FobCause; Touch Key not inserted into receptacleSolution; Insert Touch Key into Receptacle during programming sequence.
