IEEE Xplore: Browsing the Tables of Contents

You can browse tables of contents of the IEEE journals, conference proceedings, IEEE standards and IEEE books by selecting thet type of publications from a Browse menu on the IEEE main screen.

Journals and Magazines

Click Journals & Magazines on the browse menu to browse a specific journal.

Select an alphabetical letter to browse the journal list. Click on the journal title in the list and select year and issue of the journal,

then the contents of your selected journal will be displayed. Click on the hypertext link to view the full-text article. You can enter part of journal title in the search box to quickly locate

the journal.

Note: In the alphabetical list, “Journal of Lightwave Technology” will be listed under “Lightwave” not “Journal”.

Conference Proceedings

Click Conference Proceedings on the browse menu to browse the specific Conference Proceedings.

Select an alphabetical letter to browse the proceedings list. Choose the conference title to view details of the proceedings. Click date of conference to browse the contents of the proceedings. Select the article titles to view the abstract or full text. Note: The next to a conference name indicates a conference grouping, click to view the titles of all conferences in the same grouping.

You can enter keywords to quickly locate the titles of conference proceedings titles.

Standards

Click Standards on the browse menu to browse a specific standard.

Select a range of standard numbers to browse the standard titles. Click on PDF to view the full text.

If you want to find the specific standard, enter a standard number or keywords to quickly locate standard titles.

IEEE Xplore: Basic Search

This search option allows you to enter keywords in the search boxes and

choose the search field or the Boolean operators to define your search in IEEE Xplore.

Enter one or more keywords in the search box and then click .

The search result list with bibliography will be displayed. You can view the abstract of a specific title by click AbstractPlus or click PDF to view the full-text.

You can view the books that match your search criteria by selecting titles in the Top Book Results list or click on the View All Results to see all books matching your criteria.

IEEE Xplore: Author Search

Option 1 To search a specific author, enter an author last name or partial last name in the search box then click .

For example: If you want to search for the publication authored by Dr.Sawasd Tantaratana you can type:

• Tantaratana (just the last name) • Tantaratana S (the last name with the first initial) Note: Do not enter a comma or full first name

Click a name hyperlink to view a list of articles written by that author.

Option 2 If you are not sure how to spell the name, you can also click a letter to browse the alphabetical list of author names.

The Advanced Search page provides a structured way for you to narrow your search by field, collection, and date and also allow you to combine the keywords in specific ways to perform a more complex search.

Option 1 Structured Advanced Search

- Click in the first text box and then enter a keyword: the keyword can be a subject term, last name, date, or phrase (If you are unsure of the spelling, you may enter a part of the word or name).

- Limit your search by selecting a choice in the field list next to the text box.

- To include additional words or phrases in the search query, enter search text and select fields for the other search query boxes as necessary. Define the relationship between the query boxes by selecting search operators AND OR NOT from the pull-down menus.

- Limit your search results by adjusting the search options: Publication types, Standard status, Date range, Display format and Results listed per page.

- Click to execute your search.

Option 2 Free-Form Search: Enables you to enter a free-form search query with specific fieldcode searches and Boolean operators (AND OR NOT).

- In the free-form box, enter the keyword and limit your search by specifying which field to search in, using the <in> operator and a fieldcode as follows:

- You can combine multiple searches using Boolean operators.

OR retrieve records containing either or both terms

broadband <or>wireless

NOT exclude a word from your search animal <not> elephant

Example: If you want to search for the article that has the keyword “data analysis” in the title and authored by Powers, J. T., simply enter the following query syntax:

After searching, IEEE Xplore displays a list of documents that fit your search criteria:

in red. - Print or email the page. - Access full text - Search on author names by clicking the live author-name links. - Search on subject terms by clicking the live index-term links. - View the list of references in the document, if available, and view

Download Citation

The Download this citation area on the AbstractPlus page enables you to

download Abstract records into your bibliographic management program, such as EndNote. This feature aids you in collecting pre-formatted citation information for future reference needs.
