Thank you for all you do to prevent child abuse.

From the headlines it looks as if we need to continue to do as much as possible to keep children safe. The SRS numbers show a decrease in the number of children who are being abused. In FY 2006 Wichita SRS was assigned 8,684 reports of abuse, 3,217 cases revealed no child abuse and 477 were cases were substantiated. FY2008 Board Members

Since we are in the business of making a difference in the lives of children and youth, it is especially meaningful to us when young people give of themselves to help others.

Volunteers from Kansas Association of Legal Assistance prepare dinner with Phase 1 youth each month.

Westar awarded the Wichita Children’s Home $500 on behalf of Rachel White

McQuillan’s volunteer service at the Home.

Maize High School student, Courtney Humphrey, enlisted the help of her family and friends on a year long project to collect money to purchase gifts for our children during the holidays. Courtney (pictured far right) and her family wrapped nearly 75 gifts for all ages and delivered them just in time for Christmas morning.

Volunteers

Hanna Melhorne (pictured with her mother, Dr. Katherine Melhorne) asked guests who attended her birthday party to bring a gift for our children. Gifts included clothing, CD players, toys and games.

PGA Tour golfer Woody Austin and his wife, Shannon, announced their gift of $125,000 to the Wichita Children’s Home.

“It’s something we are pleased to do,” said Austin, who comes off his finest season as a PGA Tour professional. “We were fortunate to have had a great 2007 and we feel it is important to share our good fortune. The Wichita Children’s Home serves children who have nowhere else to turn.”

The Board President of the Wichita Children’s Home, Pamela Clancy Ammar, says “We are honored and very thankful for the Austin’s generosity to the Wichita Children’s Home.”

Woody recently completed his finest season on the PGA Tour, with a win at the Stanford St. Jude Championship and was runner-up to Tiger Woods at the PGA Championship. Woody was also part of the victorious 2007 President’s Cup team.

Thank you to the Wichita Auto Dealers Association for making our 5th annual Cars for Kids gala a stellar success. Guests enjoyed an evening of music, live and silent auctions and the chance to win a new car while enjoying Wichita’s largest new car showroom. With over 900 guests, Cars for Kids raised $125,000 for the Wichita Children’s Home. The generosity of WADA, sponsors, the many organizations and individuals who donated to the auctions, volunteers and guests ensure that the Wichita Children’s Home stands ready to provide shelter for more than 2,500 children each year in need of a safe haven during their time of crisis.
