Process Paper  When I was looking for a topic, I wanted my topic to be based on something I was really interested in but also something people didn't know about. When I was younger, I remember reading about the war in Iraq and how people were against or for the war. So I decided to choose the Iraq War as my topic, but when I was doing my research I found articles talking about Guantanamo Bay detention camps. After I read about Guantanamo Bay, I decided to go with both topics. Then I received feedback about my project and I had to choose between one of the two topics. I went with Guantanamo Bay and I focused on how the detainees were treated and the rights that they had in Guantanamo Bay.  To conduct my research, I first went online to see what I could find, such as articles, interviews, and documents. I found many many articles related to Guantanamo Bay. I also found many primary sources and I used interviews of detainees who were in Guantanamo Bay. While I was researching I found testimonies of FBI Agents on human rights website. One of my history teachers contacted Adam Thurschwell, former lawyer of detainees at Guantanamo Bay. I interviewed him for two hours and asked him questions about Guantanamo Bay.  Theses sources gave me insight of what was happening to the detainees in Guantanamo Bay and helped me to understand my topic better.  I decided to build a website because I felt it would best fit my topic and I am good at coding.  Attaching documents that were related with my topic would be easier and I wouldn’t have to worry about penmanship or cutting out letters. Also, it would be much easier inserting interview videos of detainees I wanted to use. I did a rough draft on a piece of paper to categorize each tab of my website. After I collected all the information that I needed, I did a final rough draft on another piece of paper and I added all of the information I had into the website.  The United States has a great tradition of practicing discrimination within their military.  Guantanamo Bay relates to the theme of Rights & Responsibilities because the facility is used to hold prisoners of war who may or may not commit war crimes against their will. While detained, there has been several reports of physical, sexual, and medical abuse.  Habeas Corpus is the protection of liberty in the United States justice system.  Habeas Corpus gives prisoners the right to question their imprisonment and is protected by the Constitution of the United States.  If the government cannot show why a person is being held in jail, that person must be released.  Guantanamo Bay is a United States military prison that operates in between the lines of Habeas Corpus.  Many of the detainees are held there against their will, interrogated, tortured, and detained without a proper fair trial.   One of the main responsponsibilities of the  U.S. government is to protect their citizens and allies from outside threats or danger. Sometimes detainees are held at Guantanamo Bay for long periods of time because if the United States decided to release them, prisoners would rejoin the war and become a threat again. Although prisoners were abused and denied rights at Guantanamo Bay, the U.S. 

government has a responsibility to protect their citizens by any means necessary. Guantanamo Bay operates because the U.S. is trying to avoid any terrorist acts that could endanger the welfare of America.
