Report on GTU Innovation Sankul, Surendranagar

On 15

th September – 2011 (Engineer’s Day) the Honourable Vice-Chancellor, GTU Dr. Akshai

Aggarwal visited GTU innovation council – Surendranagar Sankul & institutes of Vardhman Bharti

Trust – Wadhwan City.

• A meeting of all heads of the institutions under GTU innovation council - Surendranagar,

trustees of the institutes & people from various industries was held on 15/09/2011 in the

presence of the Honourable Vice-Chancellor.

• During the meeting heads of the institutes presented report regarding shodhyatras carried out

by students & faculty members, industrial Visits organized by institutes, IDPs & placement

guidance provided by institutes.

• Almost all industrialists present in the meeting expressed their views. Both the industries &

academia realized that the interaction between the industries & institutes through the sankul

should be promoted further. During the meeting, open discussion was held among industry

people, academia & the Honourable Vice-Chancellor. A view was expressed that more floor

persons / workers at basic levels in industries & students should interact with each other as

intensively as possible.

Views expressed in the discussion are:

I. There is Need of degree engineering course in Ceramic Engineering for Saurashtra

region.

II. Industry useful subjects should be included in the syllabus.

III. Industry experience of one year should be made compulsory before the award of

degree.

IV. There is need to find out various sector wise needs of industries & then determine the

sector wise strength of GTU and Co-ordinate the both by centralize program for mutual

benefit.

V. Inter Sankul prizes should be announced for best performance of institute in the area of

shodhyatras, industrial Visits, IDPs & placement guidance.

VI. Series of seminars by experts from industry should be organized throughout the year &

program schedule should be announced well in advance.

The Honourable Vice-Chancellor expressed the vision of progressive GTU & how GTU working jointly

with industries for creating research eco system where academia are on the road for mapping the

industrial needs. He stressed on importance of linking as many SMEs as possible to GTU students during

the Summer Vacation so that every pre-final year student of GTU is able to obtain an IDP for final year.





A separate meeting was also held in which the Honourable Vice-Chancellor guided the faculty members

regarding role of a teacher in technical education & various objective of GTU.
