ENERGY TO CIRCULATEGT-R has a number of signifi cant features that promote airfl ow around and under the car that boost cooling and downforce at the same time.

A wide front intake boosts airfl ow. The complex aerodynamic design of the GT-R provide additional downforce by creating a pressure vacuum in the engine bay sticking the vehicle to the road. As this air volume exits it also provides additional cooling for the front brakes. Underneath the front of the car, there is an additional NACA duct that channels air into the transmission tunnel area of the cabin.

At the rear, the transmission is air-cooled and small air vents on the lower side of the back bumper provide yet another release for hot air from the exhaust box.

The creation of each Nissan GT-R is a story of passion, dedi cation and meticulous control. Each Nissan GT-R engine is hand-assembled by a single technician – one of only 8�allowed the honor – in a dust and temperature-controlled clean room much like those used for Formula One racing engines. Once assembled, the engine spends an hour in bench testing and break-in, including running at redline for a rigourous 10 minutes straight, so that it’s ready to give full performance in the hands of its owner. A legend is born.

In the 2011 model, after 3 whole years from the debut, GT-R experienced great progress equal to that of a full model change. The 2012 model also aimed to become the world’s best multi performance vehicle with more maturity and progress, reaching new heights. The evolution of GT-R is a result of discipline and progress of the creators behind the car.

Humans can continue growing indefi nitely. The possibilities that GT-R holds are also endless. The evolution never ends.

Constantly progressing to the next level at top speed.Maximum output was increased by 14kW (20PS) to 404kW (550HP) @ 6400rpm, maximum torque up by 20Nm to 632Nm @ 3200 to 5800rpm.

Combined fuel effi ciency improved from 12.0 to 11.8 L/100�km. The response, the feel of torque and jump at mid to high range is so intense, it feels like a different engine.

THE FRONT MIDSHIP with the center of gravity

towards the back instead of the front axle. The V6 engine and twin turbo, shorter in length from front to back was selected. The weight of the engine becomes the energy source of the strong gripping power of the front tires.

THE PROPELLER SHAFT made from carbon composite only connect the power source, an

independent type design; the vibration of the engine and transmission do not transfer to one another.

THE TRANSMISSION was made as flat as possible; the center of gravity was set

lower than the rear axle. This weight and inertial force bring out the gripping power of the rear tires, the key to performance.

SEARCHING FORTHE ESSENCE OF PHYSICS

‘Gravity is energy.’ A creative design with the basic fundamentals of physics.

Ultimately, space is gravity itself. Weight creates the energy called gravity, and all things on earth exist in the balance of gravity and weight. Never before has there been a car created by taking full advantage of this massive power, gravity. To realize multi-performance, the design idea for GT-R’s Premium Midship Package is based on this energy called gravity, taking full advantage of the weight of the car to improve gripping power of the tires.

An unconventional development style was selected to realize this goal.

First, decide the gripping power of the rear tires: to increase the weight on the rear tires, the heavy transmission is placed in the rear.

Decide the gripping power of the front tires: maintain maximum neutral steering, while maintaining a fl at position for the body when breaking.

Decide the weight and position of the center of gravity for the engine: pursue the best weight balance for front and back and low center of gravity.

Lastly, decide the engine specifi cation and mount position : load a V6 twin turbo on a compact, front midship.

THE REAR DIFFUSER is made from carbon composite material. In the rear bumper side, there is an air outlet to cool down the muffler.BELOW THE UNDERCOVER, the air that creates downforce flows, and in the tunnel above the undercover

creates the airflow that cools down the transmission. There are two types of air flow above and below.

The aerodynamics of the GT-R is mainly maximized in two types of performance areas. One is to increase stability by creating downforce.

The other is the cooling of the engine, transmission and brakes. Take a look at the airfl ow in the diagram to the right.

GT-R creates two fl ows of air; the fl ow above cools the entire layer above the undercover, the fl ow below creates downforce.

The air intake to cool down the engine that enters from the front grille is sucked out from the wheelhouse with great force. That amount is far greater than the intake.

This causes negative pressure to build up in the engine room, increasing the Cd (cœffi cient of drag), creating downforce.

The aerodynamics of the Premium Midship Package allow all the factors, downforce, cooling and air resistance, to co-exist, and not just one or the other.

Aluminium, carbon and steel. The Multi-material body structure, fully utilizing the nature of the raw materials. When you hear of a full aluminium body, or a full carbon body, it sounds amazing. But is that really the best choice? There are advantages and disadvantages only found in steel. Same is true for aluminium and carbon. GT-R chose to create the Multi-material body, using each material by maximizing on the nature of the raw material in the best places.

PEACE OF MINDIN ANY CONDITIONS

An ideal world only possible by supercars,turned into a real world anyone can experience. Naturally, if superb performance is possible at 300km/h, the performance should be at the same level at 100km/h.

Even on the motorway the road surface is not that smooth, many bumps in places, strong winds swipe from the side on bridges. Even under those conditions, you can feel the downforce come on, and the body stabilizes, hugging the ground.

When its raining, GT-R is unchallenged on the motorway. The Premium Midship Package is 4WD, the load is evenly distributed to all four wheels, and a strong downforce holds the body securely down on the road surface. The wipers, even at high speeds will not lift up. The water sprays into the air, a visible effect of the areodynamics. You will notice also that the body does not get that dirtyriding on the highway, even in the rain, this is because the air fl ow is properly controlled : the air barely swirls.

If a truck suddenly jumps out, punch on the brakes andsecurely slow down in a short amount of time.The special run fl at tires with a high safety margin at extremely high speed were developed because importance was placed on their rigidity.Snow day, the perfect day for GT-R. Turn set up switch to« SAVE » mode - go out and enjoy yourself. With gripping power from four tires and hill start assist, even on snowy slopes, the GT-R has more control and torque than a SUV.

WHEN THE SET UP switch is turned to the ‘SAVE’ mode, unnecessary output from the engine is eliminated so the response becomes softer. The shift change will be milder as well, allowing for easier control on a snowy road. Taking off on a hill, the low gravitational center of GT-R allows for torque and force surpassing that of an full scale SUV.

How precision can change a car : we want to move you.

The vibration measurement equipment for the body with increased accuracy. Only the body parts that passed inspection go to the next phase.

By strategically placing sensors on various places of the body, the actual load on the body under actual driving conditions is recreated, testing its performance. There are sensors which test rigidity, and sensors that measure the vibration of the body.The body part that does not pass the test given by the vibration measurement equipment will never move to the next phase.

Beautiful surface painting of body parts : a work of craftsmen with skills that come from experience. From the time of its debut, the GT-R adopted a new technology called anti-chipping paint and double clear paint, improving its quality.In addition takumi polish the body by hand, creating a beautiful shine.

On top of the Nissan all-vehicle product completion verifi cation test, GT-R is shipped out after conducting a verifi cation test on a test course for tuning areas such as suspension to check the calibration.The verifi cation test course can be up to 150km.

The English word « craftsman » and the Japanese word takumi is not synonymous with any other. To be a takumi, is thinking of others. To think of the person who will be using the item made by the takumi, of his face, feelings and life, what life is like decades from now. Not to be showy, but to be in tune with oneself.

The spirit of hospitality, woven into shape. That is the spirit of the Japanese takumi.

Carefully constructing each part, thinking of the face and feelings of the customers who will actually use their product. There is human soul in the GT-R, it can never be created in a factory that only pursues rationality. The development of the driver with the ultimate sense and sensibilities become the standard that decides the performance.

The engine and transmission of the GT-R is built one by one, by one takumi, in a dust-free clean room in a factory. If an engine is to be built in a dedicated clean room, the level of quality control rivals that of F1 machine. The precision of the human skill, increases with experience, resulting in evolution of overall performance. For example using a mechanism with increased precision, it becomes possible to control fuel and ignition timing more thoroughly. The power the driver feels when cornering is not just the result of the technology.

THE BODY IN THE PROCESS of being built. Various parts of GT-R are welded together not only by robots, but also by the human hand to improve its rigidity.

Vibration testing on the body. Because the body is created from a few hundred parts, advanced technology is crucial for increased precision.

The process to attach the intake manifold and cylinder head. Precisely attached, then the attached part is felt by the fingertips, checking for any bumps.

To measure the clearance of the cam and bulb head, a plate, a few, microns in thickness, isinserted « if done properly, even the engine sound changes » A craftsmen spoke of this process proudly.
