Some GSG’s like this 80-260 / 5 stage are so small that we can’t make a barrel shorter than 4 or 5 stages…the discharge flange would interfere with the suction flange.

For 3 or 4 stage performance, those pumps are destaged and a blank stage cylinder channels flow through the unused stage area.
