Social Enterprise Scotland on behalf of Scottish Government is delighted to be a sponsor of the GSEN Trade Show on the 10th December.  Having supported a series of events during 2014 Scottish Government working with SES has encouraged social enterprise to reach new audiences and new customers with products and services in ways not done previously.  The GSEN event is yet another example of vibrant and diverse social enterprises doing business for good.   

1pm-1.15pmTheatre Nemo - The Art of Taiko

Taiko is exceptionally good at engaging with people that previously wouldn’t engage in any activities or learning. It is a style of performance from Japan, Taiko is a highly energetic and engaging art form. The traditional rhythms are taught through words, making it a very easy to learn the instrument. The group, once learning the vocabulary, can then work individually and in groups to compose their own Taiko performance piece.

Today sees the launch of an exciting new cooperative collaboration. Five of Glasgow’s social enterprises have come together in order to be able to respond to the demands of larger scale projects. GalGael, MAKLab, The Coach House Trust, TOG Studio and Glasgow Wood Recycling are the five founding members of the Glasgow Wood Cooperative.

2.25pm-2.40pmTaster story-making session with The Village Storytelling Centre

Our work is about facilitating chat, connection and community. We tell stories and play games with groups from all walks of life, and of all ages, with benefits ranging from improved communication skills to reduced isolation, to enhanced wellbeing. In this taster session, we’ll play a fun and easy game to start with, and then storyteller Naomi will tell an interactive tale, with the help of the group. Extroverts and introverts both welcome! This taster session is for a maximum of 20 people.

Exporting Social Enterprise: A survey of overseas trade by UK social enterprises – and how to foster its growth

11% of UK social enterprise trade or franchise overseas. How are they exporting and where are they obtaining

support? What challenges do they face? What are the biggest foreign markets and most highly traded goods and services? This pioneering study, conducted by the British Council and SEUK, answers these questions and offers recommendations to support the growth of this promising export market.

Glasgow Women’s Library, what’s in it for you?

Glasgow Women’s Library is a unique resource in Scotland and much more than a Library. It is Jobs & Business Glasgow’s Social Enterprise of the Year, was nominated for Museums Galleries Scotland and won Arts and Business Scotland Enterprising Museum of the Year for 2013-2014. This session led by GWL co-founder Adele Patrick will bust myths, spotlight why we are an award winning SE and demonstrate why everyone needs Glasgow Women’s Library in their lives!

Come along and try your hand at portrait making with a twist, with Impact Arts, Scotland’s leading Social Arts organisation.

Impact Arts works across Scotland with people and communities, delivering positive, creative experiences to people who, without our intervention, would have little opportunity to do so.  Our projects focus on activities that help participants achieve greater self esteem and confidence, technical skill, and a sense of achievement and aspiration.

4.20pm-4.35pmRe-ignite your nature connection! With Green Aspirations Scotland CIC

In a 15min workshop, we will explore the value of our connection with the natural world through tactile creative craft to create a masterpiece, naturally.
