Sara Anderson as cited by Leahy (2012:1) argues that it is vital to have an open door human

resources policy and be proactive in human relations if the organization is to succeed. This will

enable both the employees and management to work hand in hand as a team sharing mistakes

so everyone can learn from them. Bottrellof Brighton and Hove Councilcited in CIPD (2009:16)argues that employee engagement is about

job satisfaction and motivation and being clear about what is expected of

you when you are at work and being given the support to improve so that

you are constantly developing and learning more and therefore generating

and doing better work for the organization.

While the Ascend Technologies employees receive some form of training and orientation when

they join the company, most of them complained of poor communication between them and

their management, poor clarification of tasks and none involvement in the decision making

process even where their tasks and roles are involved. Employees felt that the company is not

professionally managed since most issues that pertain to the company are discussed and

concluded without their involvement. This de-motivates the employees leaving them with no

sense of belonging has their readiness to leave whenever an opportunity avails itself.
