Dear Orono Parents and Community,
On behalf of a grateful school district, I would like to thank each of you for the support you have shown to the Orono Foundation for Education. Since its inception more than 10 years ago, the Orono Foundation for Education has shown extraordinary commitment to the Orono School District. The children, teachers and Orono community have benefited directly from your generous gifts and I thank each one of you for your dedication to this great school district.
We sometimes take the quality of our schools for granted. The Orono School District has had a tradition of excellence for more than 60 years – and it is easy to think that it will always be so. However, in this age of decreased public funding, it takes an incredible amount of creative management to navigate the financial obstacles placed on our schools. Your financial support, given through the Orono Foundation for Education, has not only kept us from devastating budget cuts and program elimination in the past, but has also helped the Orono Schools develop new programs like character education and enhanced STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) initiatives. This year alone, your generous donations have enabled the Orono School District to expand world languages to grades K-5. And a $200,000 grant, given by the Anderson/Van de Ven fund, will help provide our faculty with cutting-edge training in individualized learning.
Our partnership with the Orono Foundation for Education will strengthen the strategic efforts of the Orono School District’s vision. We look forward to the support of the Orono community as we work toward continually improving our schools.

This past year was a very busy time for the Orono Foundation for Education (formerly the Orono Alliance for Education). After 12 years of operation, we decided to make some significant organizational changes that would position us for the next decade of service to the Orono Schools.
• New name - We are now known as the Orono Foundation for Education. By including the word “foundation” in our name, we more clearly communicate who we are and what we do. While the name of our organization has changed, our founding purpose is the same: to support the Orono School District.
• New logo - Our new logo, with the leaf icon, symbolizes the guiding principal of the Orono Foundation for Education – growth. Our organization, with the support of our parents and community, helps the Orono School District grow excellence in their students, faculty, curriculum and greater community.
• New website - Visit our new website at www.oronofoundation.org and stay informed about the many ways in which we give and seek support for the Orono Schools. It is also an excellent resource to receive event information, updates on funding priorities and volunteer opportunities.

GROWING OUR COMMITMENTOver our 12-year history, the Orono Foundation for Education has granted over $4 million to the Orono School District. This year alone, the Orono Foundation for Education committed to a total gift of
Together, we can continue to help our children grow and reach their individual potential at Orono Schools.
Growing excellence in our students with our $250,000 Annual Fund grant, which has helped Orono to expand
guidance services, offer more advanced placement classes and provide valuable
teaching positions.
Growing excellence in our curriculum with a $100,000 “Fund-a-Need” grant
for world languages. This year’s fund-a-need enabled Orono to expand
the world language curriculum to grades K-5 and enhance the current world
language class offerings in all schools.
Growing excellence in the Orono School District with more than $50,000 in
donor-directed grants, which provide scholarships and support important
initiatives such as character education and anti-bullying efforts.
Growing excellence in our teachers with a $50,000 Teacher Training grant given by the Anderson/Van de Ven Fund. This
gift, which spans multiple years for a total gift of $200,000, is being used to
provide cutting-edge training for our faculty.

FINANCIAL SUMMARYWe ended another year in a very strong financial position, able not only to continue but to grow our support of Orono Students. We are proud to say that even after making financial investments in our infrastructure, we were able to give 80% of each dollar directly back to the Orono Schools. We continue to focus on responsible fiscal management and excellent stewardship of every donor dollar.

COMMUNITYThe Orono Foundation for Education offers opportunities to connect by bringing parents, school administrators and community members together for the purpose of supporting our schools. Events such as our Annual Gala, Back to School Bash and Parent Gatherings give us regular opportunities to build relationships.
STEWARDSHIPWhether it was during our Annual Fund Drive, at the Annual Gala or for the purpose of the World Languages Fund-A-Need, our community has responded with generosity throughout the year. For the Orono Foundation for Education, being good stewards of your financial gifts is our highest priority.
