From Father Mark Mertes, Pastor:

All you who are thirsty, come to the water!

You who have no money, come, receive grain and eat. (Isaiah 55.1)

God is always ready to feed and nour-ish us. When Jesus announces, “The Kingdom of heaven has drawn near!” he is proclaiming that God is ready to provide all the resources we need to live well in God. And I mean in ALL circumstances. Isaiah is telling the Israelites who have no home, no food, no place to worship, no hope—he tells them, come to the water and be refreshed. In this Sunday’s gospel Jesus feeds a large crowd with a few loaves and fish because even what seems to be meager resources turns out to be plen-ty in the hands of Jesus. St. Paul exhorts us to place ourselves in Jesus’ hands in ALL situations as he announces that nothing, not peril or persecution or famine or corona-virus or unemployment or illness, nothing can separate us from the love of God that comes to us in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So let us be on the watch to see how Jesus is feeding us and nourishing us and providing for our needs.

Scripture Readings for Week of August 3-9

Mon/Lun: Jeremiah 28:1-17; Matthew 14:22-36 Tue/Mar: Jeremiah 30:1-2, 12-15, 18-22; Matthew 15:1-2, 10-14 Wed/Mie: Jeremiah 31:1-7; Matthew 15:21-28 Thur/Jue: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14; 2 Peter 1:16-19 Matthew 17:1-9 Fri/Vie: Nahum 2:1, 3; 3:1-3, 6-7; Matthew 16:24-28 Sat/Sab: Habakkuk 1:12-2:4; Matthew 17:14-20 Sun/Dom: 1 Kings 19:9a, 11-13a; Romans 9:1-5; Matthew 14:22-33

We may be surprised as Jesus comes to us: In situations of illness where we

see a new grace from God that helps us understand.

As we approach a new school year and adjust and adapt and wait for further instructions.

As our young people receive their First Communions and Confirma-tions in Masses that are different than “normal” and at the same time even more powerful in the Holy Spirit.

As we look at an empty bank ac-count and the Lord gives us new creativity about how to save and consolidate our expenses.

Come, all who have no money, come and experience God walking with us

and providing all that we need!

Tú que no tienes dinero, ven, recibe grano y come.

The collection of gift cards will begin next weekend through the end of August (late donations are still appreciated!). Families registered in the parish needing assistance may request a gift card through the office or school office on a first come first serve basis. Thank you for your generosity in assisting our families in preparing for school!

Volunteer Needed A volunteer is needed to clean the two Church restrooms on Fridays during the school year. To help, please call the parish office, 913-299-3370.

Please note: Recycling Bin Change The recycling bin on the south side of the school is now locked due to a problem with items that continued to be placed in the bin that were not allowed, resulting in $80 fines each time.
