They Are Developed Leadership training is aimed at teaching leaders new skills and helping people realize their potential.

Every home care and hospice agency needs a succession plan for it’s critical positions. Cultivating leaders from within is key to organizational stability. That is why the Home Care, Hospice & Palliative Care Alliance of New Hampshire is bringing leadership training to Concord this fall! Our instructor, Nancy Formella, will utilize her expertise to coach current and aspiring executives, helping them discover the tools they need to grow.

Program Objectives • Examine leadership styles

• Understand how various leadership styles relate to one another

• Analyze how to optimize strong leadership traits and how to mitigate areas of weakness

• Demonstrate mastery of key leadership skills

• Apply leadership skill learning to current roles

• Identify future learning needs to foster continued leadership development

This program will inspire senior and mid-level managers to take on more challenging roles, and do it with confidence.

Develop strategies that capitalize on strengths and minimize weaknesses. More importantly, build capital and create an atmosphere of continued growth for now and years to come.

Nancy Formella is an Executive and Leadership Coach certified by the Gestalt International Study Center. She has worked for over 40 years in healthcare administration including various positions at the Mayo Clinic, Senior Nurse Executive and president Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and Chief Operating Officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Nancy holds a BSN from the University of Iowa and an MSN from Marquette University. She is pursuing her doctoral studies at Viterbo University in WI and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is credentialed as an Associate Certified Coach by the International Coach Federation. Nancy launched her company, NAFormella LLC, in 2017. She works with individuals and teams to help them improve their organization’s operations and realize their full potential.

About Our Instructor: Module 1: Demonstrating the Characteristics of a Leader

• Describe one’s leadership style using the tool “As I See Myself.”

• Apply one’s personal leadership style to a current work-related issue.

• Differentiate between leadership work and followership work.

• Employ reflective practice as a development tool.

• Analyze the effect of maintaining a broad leadership perspective.

Module 2: Recognizing & Managing Conflict

• Recognize conflict as it is emerging in various settings and relationships.

• Identify ways to defuse conflict.

• Analyze conflict situations to understand the personalities and drivers involved.

• Distinguish between effective vs. ineffective ways to give/receive feedback.

Module 3: Accountability: Who has it? Who needs it?

• Define the leader’s role in holding others accountable.

• Clarify the leader’s accountability vs. the employee’s accountability.

• Employ performance coaching, mentoring, and peer review for positive results.

• Understand the organization’s accountability to outside bodies and regulators.

• Employ basic financial tools to maintain accountability across the organization.

Module 4: Team Building—Now & For the Future

• Apply key team building skills to case studies and current situations.

• Use team building principles to create a succession plan.

• Interpret the work force demographic changes and challenges as they relate to team building.

• Plan for successful recruitment and retention using team building.

Module 5: Project Management

• Restate the key principles of successful project management.

• Examine a current organizational problem and set

up, implement, and evaluate a project management plan.

• Compare various time management and work prioritization techniques.

Module 6: Putting it all Together

• Present a project to the other participants and assimilate the feedback into the improvement of the project.

• Assess personal performance and create a jointly agreed

upon development plan with the participant’s supervisor.

• Analyze the importance of trust, effective working relationships and self-care in executing the leadership role.

The Program Participants will be awarded 24 continuing educational credits for nursing.

Registration is $799 per person for the six session, half-day onsite course and accompanying support materials. To create the most effective learning environment possible, the program is capped at 25 participants.

The Alliance reserves the right to create a waiting list if needed.
