Group violin instruction to be offered as extracurricular activity for elementary and middle school students
Snohomish School District has partnered with a new community outreach program called “Kaleidoscope Academy” to offer violin instruction before and after school. As enrichment to our existing music curriculum, violin instruction expands the musical options for students in the district. Lessons will be offered weekly beginning September 25 through May 30, at both Centennial and Valley View middle schools and up to five elementary schools. They are priced at $7.50 per 45-minute group lesson. Registration is online and payable through e-check, credit, or debit card. Parents must provide transportation and students must bring their own instrument. Violins can be rented from area music stores. Quality student violins can typically be purchased for $200 or less. A goal is to offer violin instruction in every elementary school, but during the pilot phase of this program, Kaleidoscope Academy is limited to five elementary schools and both middle schools. Which elementary schools will host the program will be based upon student response and other logistics. Five of the proposed elementary schools are: Riverview, Little Cedars, Cathcart, Cascade View and Emerson. To register interest, parents and students are encouraged to visit www.kaleidoscope123.org and follow the links on the “123 Register Me” tab. This is to express interest only. No payment will be required until the final arrangements are confirmed. Students of elementary schools which do not host a pilot program will have access to group violin instruction at another elementary school. Sixth graders are also invited to participate in the middle school programs. Violin instructor Jessie Scott is trained in the Suzuki method of instruction, and incorporates the Suzuki technique along with other approaches to teaching violin. She employs age-appropriate activities and games to capture student interest while building foundational skills. Parents may have an opportunity to meet Jessie Scott in advance at various curriculum nights hosted by elementary schools. To register, visit www.kaleidoscope123.org and follow the links on the “123 Register Me” tab. Proposed schedule

It’s All in Our Name….
At Kaleidoscope, you’ll find an ever-changing offering of courses. Our first efforts are focused on music and the arts...but in time, we plan to offer a variety of classes for persons in our community.
What makes Kaleidoscope classes taught at the church unique is that no matter what you are learning, along the way, your instructor will offer opportunities to see the topic through the lens of faith.
The learning environment at Kaleidoscope functions like the prism of mirrors used in a toy kaleidoscope. We understand our purpose this way:
To mirror the light of God for discovery of the image of God for the glory of God.
We believe that every human is created in the image of God and that we can experience great joy as we discover and use God’s gifts.
Please note that instruction at public schools will not be taught from a faith perspective.
