1. To develop an awareness of some issues facing people in developing countries (Through global resources game).

2. Compare and contrast our lives with lives of people in other parts of the world.

3. To discuss global inequalities experienced by particular countries in the developing world.

Stimulating Questions:For Example:How many of you have a phone? What do you think the world would be like without

school/ cell phones. Imagine your life if you did not have the opportunity to

go to school? What would it be like to only have one meal a day?

Pictures and Facts: (Of children/countries in the world who have no material goods

which we consume.)

Introduction to Global Resources Game.Explaination: Different groups will represent different

countries (4-5 students per group). Both developing and developed countries

are represented. In the game developing countries will have

fewer resources , less knowledge and opportunities to use the resources.

The students representing developed countries will have more resources.

During the game the teacher acts as the bank. When different countries have gathered €1000 they can place it in the bank.

The Banker can decide which countries to talk to at different times.(The Bank can be corrupt.)

The goal is to further your countries resources as much as possible and will end after a specific period of time.

Discussion/ Reaction on the game. Were countries treated fairly? How does it

feel like to receive preferential treatment/ to be unfairly treated?

Do you think this happens in real life? Which countries may be discriminated against?

Discussion on Responsibilities. What should rich countries who have power do? What can you do as an individual?
