Harvard Neighbors’ Winter Appeal
Stow, NH Winter Carnival Have you ever played snow golf or snow volleyball? Try out these unusual winter sports during the Jan. 13-27 44th Annual Stowe Winter Carnival, which has the theme “Stow Olympics!” Other carnival highlights include a moonlight snowshoe tour, a nationally sanctioned ice carving competition, and a movie night featuring American ski and snowboarding filmmaker Warren Miller’s 2018 film “Line of Descent.”
Snowflake Festival On Saturday, January 20 from 1pm to 3pm Brookline Arts Center is hosting the annual Snowflake Festival at 86 Monmouth Street, Brookline, MA 02446.You can try out exciting projects in mixed media, comic creation, jewelry making, 3D sculpture and more! Warm up with some hot cocoa as you watch a live pottery demo, listen to music by Hugh Hanley and meet the Art teachers. This year's Snowflake Festival will also serve as the reception for the annual Student Exhibition who highlights some of the best artwork created in school classes over the past year. Children, teens and adults display their creations in ceramics, painting, draw-ing, jewelry and metalsmithing, mixed media and other 2D and 3D mediums.
Three Winter Day Trips to take around Boston The DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum —
Lincoln The DeCordova is known for its rolling green lawns dotted with thought-provoking art, but post-snow storm, the grassy park becomes an explora-ble blanket of white. The museum offers 90-minute snowshoe tours on weekends for snow-shoers of all ages and skill levels. Afterward, warm up inside the museum’s whimsical café overlooking Flint’s Pond.
The Lyman Plant House & Conservatory — Northampton A part of the Botanic Garden of Smith College, the Lyman Plant House & Conservatory is a balmy, glass-encased environment that makes for the per-fect place to warm up. It holds more than 3,000 species of plants, from succu-lents to begonias. Smith’s greenhouses are one of only a few remaining 19th-century plant conservatories in the country.
New England Sports Park — Amesbury Backyard tubing will never be quite the same once you’ve glided down one of the 12 lanes at New England Sports Park. During wintertime, the wide-open play space transforms into a snow-coated arena that claims to have the steep-est snow tubing hills in New England. Hop on the conveyer lift to the top of the hill, then descend to the bottom again in one of the park’s 1,000 tubes.
Plaza WinterFest For the second year in a row and running Janu-ary through March, Plaza WinterFest is a great way to enjoy the cold winter months in Cambridge! You are invited from 12-8pm daily for seasonal games including curling, ice bowl-ing, and ice shuffleboard or for year-round fa-vorites including ping-pong, foosball, and corn hole. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday eve-nings from 3-9pm, warm up and make your own s'mores next to one of the fire pits. Food trucks
will be on the Plaza daily for lunch and dinner, and hot choco-late will be available for purchase. The event is at free and at the Plaza, just out-side the Science Center.
