1 Executive Summary
The client is required to conduct groundwater sampling in accordance with the terms of its IPC licence. Groundwater sampling was carried out on-site on the 17/07/2017. Groundwater samples were analysed for relevant parameters as defined in the company’s licence. Results were compared to Groundwater Threshold Values (GTV’s) as stipulated in the European Communities Environmental Objectives (Groundwater) Regulations, 2010 (S.I. No.9 2010). Where a GTV is not specified for a given parameter results were compared to Interim Guideline Values (IGV’s) as defined in the Agency’s document “Towards setting guideline values for the protection of groundwater in Ireland” (2003). All assessed parameters were determined to be below relevant limit values.

2 Introduction
2.1 Overview
Environmental Efficiency Consultants were commissioned by the client to conduct
groundwater sampling at their site in accordance with conditions of their licence. Analysis of
collected groundwater samples was carried out in order to assess groundwater quality at
the clients site and determine whether groundwater contamination has occurred as a result
of site activities i.e. whether monitoring results exceed Groundwater Threshold Values or
EPA Interim Guideline Values as defined.
2.2 Background Information
The following site processes, which may give rise to a groundwater contamination incident, occur on-site.
Manufacture of various agrochemical products Formulation of pesticides, plant growth regulators and their intermediates Storage and transfer of hazardous/flammable chemicals Blending and animation of raw material in production vessels Transfer of hazardous material through pipework Line filling of finished product into container Storage and dispatch of finished product
The following substances in use on-site constitute Chemicals of Potential Concern (COPC).
Raw materials - Solvents Finished products- pesticides Fuels and oils

3 Sampling Methodology
A groundwater sample was taken at the relevant monitoring locations on the 17/07/2017. Samples were taken in accordance with EEC’s internal SOP 01.03 Rev 1.04 Collection of a Groundwater Sample and UK Environment Agency’s Guidance on Monitoring of Landfill, Leachate, Groundwater and Surface Water, (Environment Agency 2002, Version 3). The company’s licence defines the monitoring locations and parameters to be monitored.

3.2 Method
1. Using the water level meter the borehole depth and the depth to the water level within the borehole was recorded
2. The height of the water column was determined by subtracting the values obtained in step 1.
3. The volume of water within the borehole was determined through using the following calculation; ∏r2h
4. 3 times the volume of water contained in the borehole was purged using a baler. 5. Following this, the baler was used to extract a sample into the required
container/s. 6. Relevant in-situ analysis (i.e. pH, Temp. etc.) took place as required under the
terms of the licence. This analysis was conducted in accordance with company SOP’s.
7. A chain of custody form was complete which records all relevant sampling data. 8. The sample was retained in a cool-box prior to dispatch to laboratory facilities
for further analysis. Note Note All external laboratory analytical services procured are suitably accredited to ISO 17025:2005.

5 Discussion
For all sampling points monitored, pH levels recorded in 2017 were slightly elevated compared to previous years, see figure 5-1. COD levels remained relatively low. Figure 5-1 pH results
There have been no recorded spills/releases of hazardous materials on site. While the pH level has risen it is still within the values set out for groundwater in the EPA’s interim guideline values report (2003), of 6.5-9.5 (pH Units). Analysis of Groundwater samples for VOC’s and Semi-VOC’s took place. No VOC’s or Semi-VOC’s tested for were detected at monitoring points GW2 and GW3. GW1 could not be analysed as the borehole was dry during collection.
6 Conclusions
Of the analysed parameters monitored, pH results indicated a slight upward trend however neither pH nor any other parameter monitored exceeded any applicable threshold limit, as such the company is in compliance with the terms of its licence.
7 Recommended way forward
The client is in compliance with Groundwater Threshold Values for relevant parameters and while it has been identified that there has been a slight upward trend in the pH level, we do not determine this to be a significant change and as such, it is deemed no further action is necessary.
