Whether it is purchasing new iPads, smart TVs, maintenance equipment or playground resources, it’s great to be a part of the decision making process. If this interests you please contact the P&C. The Uniform Committee will have the opportunity to explore new designs and styles. If you want to have a say, or worry that GVPS might end up with a uniform like these, please contact the P&C! 13 March 2019 Term 1 Week 7 Volume 3

From the Desk of the Principal A Visit from the Top Brass I’m pleased to advise that the Executive Director Schools Performance and Director Educational Leadership, will be visiting Grose View PS on Wednesday April 10 (Week 11) to have a look at the good things we are doing here. It is wonderful to have the hard work, commitment and professionalism of the staff acknowledged and celebrated by members of the Senior Executive team. Schools are complex organisations that require staff members to be flexible and adaptive to change. Our school has undergone significant change processes over recent years and worked extremely hard to improve our operations and performance. This is a strong endorsement of our efforts and I am very proud of the staff and all they have achieved. Have your Say I encourage interested parents and citizens to join our wonderful P&C and participate in the planning and decision making about our school. There are currently a number of topics being explored that may be of interest to you. A Uniform Committee has recently formed and will soon release a community survey to gauge interest in our school adopting a new uniform.

The future of the canteen is also being

reviewed and many options are being considered. With access to willing volunteers becoming increasingly difficult, the P&C are investigating the viability of employing a Canteen Manager or externally leasing the premises. If this is of interest to you, please contact the P&C.

The expenditure of P&C fundraising efforts is

always an enjoyable and exciting time. Whether it is purchasing new iPads, smart TVs, maintenance equipment or playground resources, it’s great to be a part of the decision making process. If this interests you please contact the P&C.

The Uniform Committee will have the

opportunity to explore new designs and styles. If you want to have a say, or worry that GVPS might end up with a uniform like these, please contact the P&C!

1/2S has really hit the ground running in Stage 1! We are

not only planting seeds of inquiry in our minds but also in

our garden plot (Thank you Mrs L).

We have become risk-takers in writing and mathematics,

learning new skills to make us a bit uncomfortable, but

also helping us to be patient and persistent.

We argued about keeping a pet and letting a pigeon drive

a bus. We even got to ponder why dragons are always

the bad guys!!

We are counting by 10’s well past 100, and catching the

addition train from Richmond to Central that becomes the

subtraction train on the way home!!

Such fun we are having.

What We’re Learning

Benjamin Dixon is a prize chicken exhibitor (and eggs)

Jack Grady loves to draw lizards (and talk about them)

Mr Smith is not really that old!!

SCHOOLS CLEAN UP DAY Schools Clean Up Day was a great success on Friday 1 March, with all classes participating after lunch collecting rubbish through our school grounds. We found 4 kg of rubbish for land fill. Most of the rubbish was small yogurt plastic lids, soft plastics like packets and straw wrappers. Our school Green Thumbs team have developed some ideas to reduce this rubbish by having several nude food lunch box days throughout the year to encourage the elimination of small plastic rubbish. Stay tuned! Well done all involved.

BUSH DANCE Our annual Bush Dance was well attended over the weekend, with over 250 guests. There was plenty of barn dancing, delicious food to enjoy and paper aeroplane throwing. We would like to thank our P&C for hosting such a wonderful event, and we would like to make a special mention to Mrs Charlesworth, Mrs Camilleri, Mrs Dando and Mrs Dixon for their preparation in the lead up to the event; Mrs Denne for cooking the sausages and Kurrajong Cellars for donating the ice and wine gift. We always enjoy this event at Grose View. It was wonderful to see the Grose View community supporting our school.

HALOGEN YOUNG LEADERS DAY The Student Executive had a great day attending the Halogen Leaders Exhibition in Darling Harbour on Monday. Our students got to listen to inspiring talks from Tim Diamond, Tamsin Janu, Cate Campbell and Holly Ferling. As well as listening to the insightful stories of these amazing leaders, we came back home thinking about how we can implement positive change within our own school community. It was a wonderful experience for our students and we can't wait to see their leadership unfold throughout the school year.
