UMVOTI Municipal staff employees, and some councillors, attended a graduation ceremony on 23 October at which they received a national di- ploma in public finance management and administration. National Treasury issued regula- tions that made it compulsory for se- nior managers and financial practi- tioners to undergo an extensive pro- gramme in municipal finance. Financial municipal graduates KRANSKOP SAPS station has decided to award a floating trophy quarterly to the most deserving detective at the sta- tion in recognition of their good perfor- mance and appreciation of their dedi- cation to the community they serve. Lieutenant Colonel Minnaar said that the detectives often work under diffi- cult circumstances and recognition for good work and praise is seldom hand- ed out. Warrant Officer Sibiya is branch com- mander at Kranskop. A very experi- enced detective who not only profes- sionally manages the detective unit, but investigates dockets personally. Many of his high profile cases have been solved, with the suspects receiv- ing hefty life sentences at the High Court. “Warrant officer Sibiya is an amazing mentor and leader to his young team of detectives. His commitment and dedication to make a difference at Kranskop detectives is appreciated. We recognise this by presenting him with this prestigious award,” Colonel Minnaar said. Kranskop detective of the month POLICE have warned that members of the public who buy what are proved to be stolen goods will be prosecuted. Greytown Station Commander, Major Mchunu, issued this warning this week. A number of petty thefts have been reported throughout the town over the past few weeks. Garden furniture is among the items stolen and then sold. Mchunu has urged householders to make sure when they leave their premises, that they are secure as thieves do monitor houses. Tholinhlanhla has unfortunately been a target over some time, with thieves breaking door frames to steal, over a period of time, 13 doors. The school is desperate, for as they replace the doors, new ones are stolen. According to the police, a youngster, who was under age, was arrested but then released. However it is understood that police investigations have recently identified the culprits and an arrest would be made Anyone who is offered goods under suspicious circumstances is urged not to purchase such items, which if proved to be stolen could lead to their being prosecuted. Greytown Police are investigating the killing of a construction worker, whose body was found near the railway line below UTB on Saturday. The man, who had died from multiple wounds, is reportedly to have been from Howick and was working on the mall building site. STOLEN GOOD BUYERS COULD BE CHARGED Stop press THREE suspects were arrested over the weekend by police in the district relating to the brutal murder of David Maratos, whilst farm sitting Brydon farm Mispah in May 2013. The murder weapon and items taken during the robbery were recovered. All suspects are in custody pending further investigation.

Remuneration: Task Grade 12 of Category 2 Municipality (R213, 419.40-R277, 030.01) per annum plus normal benefitsapplicable to local government subject to certain conditions i.e. provident fund, Uif, Medical aid, Group life insurance.Minimum Requirements:A three year tertiary qualification in Accounting at an NQF level 6, Degree or National Diploma in Finance or arecognized three year qualification in a recognized tertiary institution, 2-3 years’ experience in revenue management ina Local government environment, Computer literacy-conversant with accounting and office software programs, Goodunderstanding of the financial legislation and regulations for the Local Government Sector, Valid driver’s license andCommunication and interpersonal skills.Key Performance Areas:Supervise the verification and provision of information related to revenue collection and transactions; Assume controlsof the KPA and critical outputs of personnel within the income section; Ensure coordination of the recording ofprocessing procedure of income transactions against services rendered; Ensure coordination of specific administrativeand financial sequences associated with rates levy; Ensuring the issuing of rates certificates to support the transfer/sale agreement and approving payment, terms and conditions; Co-ordinates and controls sequences associated withthe verification and provision of information related to Revenue transactions, by: Monitoring revenue collection andreceipting and processes referring to information detailed in supporting transactional documentation and resolvingdeviations from procedures; Attending to the consolidation of Debtor Accounts, extracting and submitting reportsdetailing amounts payable for approval prior to generating and forwarding Consumer Billing Statements; Preparingstatistical reports depicting short to medium term cash flow trends inclusive of explanations to support specificdeviations; Interacting with the internal/ external auditors and makes available information, supporting documentationand proofs of approval guiding specific recordings, adjustments and allocation of Account receivable transactions;Runs the Income Section and controls the key performance areas and critical outputs of personnel within the Section,by: Providing guidelines/ guidance to personnel on the application of procedures; Implementing remedial measures/corrective action to align performance and output against agreed standards; Appraising performance levels, settingobjectives and measuring accomplishment or establishing reasons for non-conformance; Instituting disciplinaryaction for non-conformance to and/ or providing details of serious breaches to terms and conditions of employment/codes of conduct to the immediate superior for attention and execution of disciplinary procedure; Co-ordinating therecording and processing procedures of income transactions against services rendered, by: Balancing cash receiptsagainst entries recorded in receipt books and preparing the schedule categorizing income received for accordingto services and preparing bank deposit notifications; Processing and verifying debtor transactions against systemreports and summaries and, seeking approval on adjustments to entries for specific accounts; Reconciling Debtoraccounts and proceeding with the posting and balancing of ledger accounts; Generating reminder notifications forcirculation to overdue debtors and/ or communicating, calculating and establishing payment terms and conditions withdefaulters; Generating Debtor Age Analysis reports and checks the status of accounts with a view to referring arrear/overdue accounts for further action; Ensuring that Credit Control and Debt Collecting Policy and By-laws are enforced;Monitoring of Attorneys/Debt Collectors with regard to progress in credit control and debt collection; Performing anyother duties assigned by the Chief Financial Officer or any other person as may be delegated from time to time

Well done to David Cunningham whoscored 50 runs. The 1st XI played against astrong Weston team at Weston, and did notwin despite a spirited performance.

They fared much better against Grace Col-lege, to whom they lost earlier in the year.

Grace College 1st XI batted first, putting upa challenging total - Hermannsburg passedtheir score, despite losing five wickets in fiveovers, before the remaining batsmen rallied,hitting somebeautiful boundaries and settingup Hermannsburg to win by three wicketswith an over in hand.

In the primary school, a mixed age-groupteam played a home game against GreytownJunior. Greytown scored 55 runs in their 20overs, Hermannsburg replying with 55 in 12overs (Eric Ortmann 45) to win the match.Well done to the Hermannsburg team.

Our Grade eight confirmants spent severaldays last week on their retreat, preparing fortheir confirmation service in November. Theyended their time of studying and learningmoreabout their faithwith the church serviceon Sunday, led by the vice-bishop of thechurch, Reverend Burgert Brand. While theywere away, the Grade nine learners complet-ed theEnglishandmathematics internationalbench-marking tests.

Greytown passed Treverton'sscore in the 13th over, winning the

game by eight wickets. On Wednes-day, the U11 cricket boys playedagainst Treverton. The match wasshortenedduetorain.Trevertonbat-ted first and scored 114 runs in their15 overs. We only managed to score43 runs in our 15 overs. Trevertonwon by 71 runs. The U10’s playedTreverton. They lost to Treverton by

77 runs. Our boys scored 53 for 7.Treverton had 130 for 3.

On Friday, 17 October, the U13cricket side travelled to Dundee toparticipate in the annual cowboyeight tour. Greytown junior played atotal of four games. Greytown juniorgainedmuchneededexperienceandenjoyed the tour.

FIFTY-three senior primary pupils fromSt. David’s Diocesan School, accompa-nied by their teachers, took part in athree-day camp at Glenrock Game andTrout Farm, Mooi River. They were keptextremely busy with a variety of chal-lenging activities, all tackled with greatenthusiasm and enjoyment.The programme included orienteering,

wetland studies, games, raft-building,foofie slide over the dam, tree-climbing,obstacle course and kayaking.The pupils were enjoying themselves somuch that they were sad to leave andagreed that the camp had been greatfun. They especially thanked the in-structors for teaching them so many dif-ferent skills and for their love and kind-ness.St. David’s extends a big thank you toGreytown Children’s Home for transport,to Riaan and Kotie van Zuydam, to Cindyand to the team for the excellent accom-modation, delicious meals and enjoyableactivities.

From theditchTHE Greytown Golf Classic is the biggest

event on the golf calendar of the GreytownCountry Club annually. According to thedates on the trophy, the first Classic tookplace during 1992 and the winners wereP Harris and A de Beer.

Through the years, many well knownnames from the Umvoti district, and some-times beyond, appear on the trophy.

The Classic of 2014 was played in superbweather on Saturday, 25 October. What apleasure it was to see our golf course filledwith 78 golfers from as far as Kokstad, Est-court, Ballito and Pietermaritzburg. StCathryns, Howick and Mooi River were alsorepresented. Our sincere gratitude to oursponsors who supported us magnificently.A special word of thanks to Elmarie andJabu who plied the players with deliciouseats during the day and served up ascrumptious meal after prizegiving. Spe-

cial mention must also be made of the wa-tering hole sponsored by Safire, as well asthe guys who manned it. This has becomea popular feature of the Classic in recentyears. The winners were Mark Scott andJacques Breytenbach on an excellent scoreof 50 points, second were B Zuma and GStrachan also on 50 points oco, and thirdwere D Meyer and R Cyrus on 48 points.

Gareth Larkan lost out on the moneyas he was not present at the time of the

draw. The next attendance draw will beon Friday, 7 November with R1400 up forgrabs. Be here from 6.30pm and you couldbe the lucky winner.
