Like it or not, Eskom has an-nounced that itwill be implement-ing load shedding to protect thenational grid from a total shutdown. With the onset of wintrycold conditions throughout thecounty, the demand for electricityhas increased and if the demanddoes not decrease load shedding, as a last resort, will be imple-mented.

Eskomhas appealed to the pub-lic to switch off geysers, heaters,pool pumps and non-essential ap-pliances between 5 and 8 p.m. –a10%voluntarysavingwouldhelpkeep the lights on!

An appeal is also made to com-mercial customers, to switch offnon-essential lights at night,, andnot leave computers and photo-copies in stand by mode.

The Greytown Gazette would liketo apologise to the hundreds ofUmvoti residents, and visitors,who over many years have en-joyedthesportingandsocial facil-ities of King Edward Park. Acessby bowlers, rugby, soccer andnetball players, athletes, and somany schools , as well as socialfunctions and meetings at thethree club houses,will, from thelooks of things be restricted. Notonly is the whole park currentlybeing fenced, somewhat errati-cally, but gates have been in-stalled at the three street en-trances!

Sincework started on the fenceearlier this year, the GreytownGazette has requested informa-tion from the Municipal;ity as tohow access to the Park would beintroduced. Par for the course -no response!

In desperation the GreytownGazette gave all Councillors andMunicipal officials at the Statuto-ry meeting on Friday, the follow-ing letter of request...and guesswhat - no response!

“The Greytown Gazette re-quests, as a matter of urgency, astatement from the Municipalityin regard to the fencing and gat-ingofKingEdwardPark.Thiswillaffect hundreds of residents andvisitors who, seven days of theweekduring theday, andatnight,make use of the sporting facilities-that is tennis, bowls, soccer, rug-by, netball athletics as well as so-cial functions held at the clubhouses.

This office has been inundatedwith queries from many - havepreviously, several times, re-questedastatement fromtheMu-nicipality on this.but no response

has ever been received.In addition to the Municipality

Umvoti Mascor Polocrosse Club at-tended the Natal Champs tournamentheld in Mooi River this past weekend(14th and 15th of June). Umvoti A wasrepresented by Caroline Minnaar, Va-nessaWilliams andMark Scott, aswellas Jacquie Minnaar, Colin Storey andPatrick O’Sullivan. Umvoti A’s gameswere all extremely close. In their firstgameversusNyati they lost byonly onegoal. In their second game versus theyplayed against Hilton A.

In the fourth chukka (out of a total

of six) their scores were tied 14 each.However, they lost thetie intheensuingchukkas and unfortunately lost by fivegoals.Their last game was played versus

Bishopstowe B. Again, it was an ex-tremely close game. It was also one ofthe more ‘fun’ games as friends werepitted against each other on opposingteams. Umvoti A unfortunately lostonce again by only one goal.Umvoti B was represented by Cam-

The fifth Grey-town Superbody weight loss challenge awards were heldon 11th June.Over the past four months participants hada diet plan to follow and were expected to attend fitnessclasses …daily.A grand tiotal of 33 committed challengerscompleted the programme.

For the first time ever there was a tie for first positionJuanita Hill and Lihle Mwandla both lost 17kgs. In secondposition Jackie Landman lost 15.1kgs;third Catie Bakerwho lost 8.5kgs, fourth Laverne Pieterse lost 8.3kgs lost;Sue Strydom and Eudora Mbanjwa tied for 5th place withboth loosing 7.2 kgs each.
