Worship in June June is a great time for us to celebrate the amazing

power and presence of our God.

Here’s a brief overview of our community worship

experiences for the month:

June 3- Romans 8:12-17- The work of the Spirit

in our lives.

Beginning June 10- Get Crazy, - the story of what

happens when you choose a way that is not God,

and when God chooses a way that is not yours.

June 10- 1 Samuel 8:4-20 (11:14-15) “We Just

Can’t Wait to Have a King” and praying for Va-

cation Bible School.

June 17 1 Samuel 15:34-16:13 – “A Father’s Day

Lesson: The Lord Looks at the Heart.” Prayers

for those going to church camp and our Father’s

Day Celebration.

June 24 1 Samuel 17:1-49 – “Honesty and Integ-

rity when everyone is afraid.” Prayers for those

going on the mission trip.

Staff Changes Announced We are proud to welcome Jennifer Swords as an

intern to our church staff this summer. Jennifer will be

working with our college age community, helping with

youth and children’s worship, and helping out with our

Connect worship. Jennifer’s first Sunday is this Sunday.

She likes to be called Jenn. Be sure and wear your

nametag and give her a warm welcome (But we know

you will do that).

The Staff Parish Committee would like for you to

know about some staff changes. Debbie Cardwell will

be moving from assistant youth minister into the Lay

Ministry director position. You will remember that

Sara Straznicky is moving over to direct the five day

preschool. Debbie will be in charge of our hospitality,

our ministries with our guests, and care of our members.

She will also continue to work with our youth on a

somewhat more limited basis. One of our pastors, Ricky

Ricks, will work more directly with our Adult Ministry

team.

Honoring our Past, Celebrating our

Future And the Renovations Begin! It has begun…the choir hall preschool rooms are now

stripped of that gosh-awful smelly carpet; next step will be

painting those walls! And a wall came down last week

across from the Fellowship Hall between the “angel” room

and the “paint-

splatter” room. This is

the future choir room.

It will allow our Chancel choir a shorter walk-

ing distance on Sunday mornings. The old

choir room will then be converted to the Chil-

dren’s Worship center, and will also be used

with the 2-day and 5-day preschool programs.

The old Resource Room (that always seems to

be the catch-all) is being cleaned out to make

room for Sara Straznicky’s preschool office.

Excitement is everywhere! Thank you to

everyone who has given and/or will be giving

of your extra fruits to make these changes hap-

pen! It is all about growing the Kingdom, and

raising up Disciples of Christ!

Summer Parent/Youth Meeting June 3rd

5:30-7:30 pm

We will gather in the Wellmaker Joy Classroom to

discuss the summer schedule, preparations, and

expectations for camp and the mission trip. The

meeting will probably be fairly short.

Father’s Day Tickets Father's Day Breakfast Tickets are available before

traditional worship and during the Sunday school

hour, prior to Connect Worship. Individual tickets

are $8.00, and family tickets are $20.00. Get your

Father's Day Breakfast tickets today! All proceeds

benefit youth summer missions!

Youth Mission Project The youth began a local missions project through

serving an elderly resident of our Greggton neighbor-

hood. In the midst of school finals and demanding

extra-curricular activities, a dozen of our youth made

serving the needs of our neighborhood a priority. The

project included mowing the yard, pulling weeds,

clearing brush, and trimming hedges. The resident

was very appreciative, but the honor was the youths'

to serve. When she looks outside of her window, she

can enjoy the beauty of her yard, and her heart will be

warmed by the love of Christ shared with her by the

youth at Greggton United Methodist Church.

Love Shares are still available in the church office.

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS Agape: We had ten members in class for Mary Catherine Shipp’s lesson from the Gospel of John. Prayers for all vet-

erans and their families.

New Beginnings: We had a small group of 7 present this morning but some excellent discussion on our final study

on Paul. The lesson today was "Experiencing Joy in Sufferings" from Philippians 1:12-26 taught by Terry

Hedden. Prayer joys and concerns this week include: Nelson Swigar (Beth Garcia's dad), Janet Adams' uncle, John

Adams' uncle Ken, Buck Coulter's grandfather, Rebecca & Zach (Benton's daughter & son-in-law), Nathan Hedden

family (Terry & Vicki's nephew). We will begin a new study next Sunday on Angels. Our class will provide the

evening meal for LIHN on Sunday, June 24. Our next Asbury House yard work day will be weekend of June 8 - 9.

Welmaker-JOY: Richard Andrews brought the class together with announcements, a joke and a prayer. Thanks to

Nancy Duke for delicious refreshments. Happy birthday to Joe Stafford. A joy for all the grandparents who had

grandchildren graduate from various schools and grades with honors. Also students who have done well in various

state student competitions. A joy that Billye Early got a good doctor’s report and no more chemo. Prayer concerns

this week for Jimmy, Ricky, and James Andrews, Connie Brooks, Tim Begley, Carolyn Brown, LaJuanda Emery,

Larry Hamilton’s mother, Faye Rittenberry, John Hardin, Kate Hart, Ron & Johnnie McCune, Jane Snipes, Wilma

Stafford, Joe Stone, Nelda Smith, Rose Marie Jones, Anne & Debbie Barrow, Nickolas Baker, Jayce Tyner, Suzanne

Mitchell, Buddy & Judy Wyche, Sherry & Katie Richardson, Jamie Carver, Ken Olvie, and Bryan Boyd. We also

pray for Mary Broome and Richard Andrews as they travel to Indiana. Thirty heard Bobby Koonce teach a thoughtful

lesson entitled “The Way, the Truth, and the Life,” encourages us to explore how Jesus is the way, the truth, and the

life for us.

Come Meet Jenn If you are a college age person (or close too it), we’d love

for you to meet our new intern, Jenn Swords, who will be lead-

ing groups just for you. Your first opportunity to get to meet

her will be this Sunday at 10am in the prayer room. Hope you

can join us!

Thank You Our thanks for all the prayers from our church

family during the loss of John’s brother, Tommy

Eaves.

Lon Morris College Need

Dear Friends of Lon Morris,

I received a letter this past week from our bishop. In it she detailed financial dif-

ficulties facing Lon Morris college. Because of these financial difficulties, the col-

lege has been unable to meet its payroll obligations to faculty and staff. Currently

three payrolls have not been paid, and the faculty and some staff are under contract

to be paid through July 31. The shortfall presents to these employees serious

issues: home mortgage payments are still due, medical bills must be paid, and

groceries purchased. The faculty and staff need our help.

We are appealing to the churches of this conference to help provide financial assistance to these faculty and staff,

and to help Lon Morris meet its outstanding payroll obligations as soon as possible. The Council on Finance and

Administration has authorized, on the recommendation of the Cabinet, a one-time conference-wide emergency

appeal for Lon Morris College in accordance with ¶ 614.5. The sole purpose of this solicitation is for unpaid salary

and benefits for the faculty and staff of Lon Morris College. We are therefore asking every church in the annual

conference to collect a special offering between now and June 10 or to send funds to help with these payroll

responsibilities. Our goal is to cover one payroll—about $250,000.

My heart like yours breaks for Lon Morris and its employees. We are busy with many things, but I thought that I

would be remiss if I didn’t inform you of this situation, and give you the opportunity to respond. I would invite all of

us to be in prayers for the faculty, students, and administrators. Our Communion offering for June will be designated

for this. If you wish to contribute before that, please mark all checks “Lon Morris.”

Grace and Peace,

Ricky

5 Day Preschool Our 5 Day Preschool will be opening September 4,

and we need your

help to spread the

word! If you know

anyone that has a 3

or 4 year old and

needs full-time care,

please tell them

about New Horizon

Preschool. We have

postcards that you

can take to work or to your neighbors, just come by the

church to pick some up. If anyone would like more de-

tails about the preschool, be sure to check out our web-

site www.nhpreschool.com or call Sara Straznicky at

903.759.3831.

Volunteer for LIHN We will be hosting families for LIHN the week of

June 24-30. Please consider signing up to help serve in

this ministry. The sign-up sheet is located in the hallway

by the Fellowship Hall or you can call the church office

at 903.759.3831 to sign up. We need your help to make

sure the families are taken care of as we share the love

of Christ.

Thank You! Greggton United Methodist Women would like to thank

those in the congregation who helped us collect barcodes

from Campbell products and Boxtops for

Education, for the Henderson Settlement in Kentucky.

Thanks to your efforts we were able to send 2222 points

for Campbell products and 524 Boxtops for Education.

Henderson Settlement has put out a new list of

participating products. Please take a sheet form the

collection boxes that list the new items.

Thank You to the Greggton Family! We would like to thank you for the lovely wedding

shower given to us on April 29, 2012. We cannot express

how much love, support and gratitude we received that

day. Although we are unable to attend this church on a

regular basis, we have always felt welcomed and at home

when we are able to visit. Thank you from the bottom of

our hearts for helping us start our life as one.
