Huffman Prairie Flying Field (FREE)Huffman Prairie Flying Field, a national historic landmark, is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Greene County. This 84-acre pasture is where Wilbur and Orville Wright undertook the difficult and dangerous task of creating a dependable, fully controllable airplane and training themselves to be pilots. The field looks just as it did when the Wright brothers flew here in 1904.(937) 425-0008, Enter through Gate 16A, WPAFB, Ohio 45433

Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center (FREE)The Huffman Prairie Interpretive Center exhibits focus on the Wright brothers’ experimental flights at Huffman Prairie Flying Field in 1904 and 1905, and on The Wright Company’s flying school from 1910 to 1916. The Interpretive Center also covers the history of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base from its beginnings at McCook Field in Dayton during World War I, up to its contributions to the aerospace projects of the future now being carried out at its current complex, which includes the Huffman Prairie Field where Wilbur and Orville Wright turned their invention into a practical machine. National Afro-American Museum and Cultural CenterThe Museum opened to the public in 1988 with enthusiastic support of hundreds of individuals throughout the nation who have donated family treasures to the center. In less than two years, the museum had developed one of the nation’s largest collections of Afro-American materials, including over 9,000 artifacts, 350 manuscript collections, and thousands of photo-graphs. Staff continues to collect artifacts from people throughout the nation who are anxious to have their family history preserved in the first national museum dedicated to Afro-American history and culture. The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center (NAAMCC) opened a new art exhibit, “How I Got Over,” which showcases how African Americans have used art to mobilize communities. The exhibit title comes from the song sung by gospel singer and civil rights activist Mahalia Jackson after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. The NAAMCC is located on the campus of Central State University. Hours Wed - Sat. 9AM to 4PM. Closed Sun. Mon. & Tues. Wilberforce (937) 376-4944 ohiohistory.org/national-afro-american
