Oxheart An old-fashioned favorite with heart-shaped pink fruit that weigh up to 1 pound. Very meaty flesh contains few seeds, great for slicing and sauces. Great flavor and productivity.

Carbon A beautiful purple-brown tomato with 10-14 oz. fruit & a delicious, rich, & complex flavor. Because of it’s productivity and flavor, Carbon is becoming popular to grow in commercial produce markets.

Mortgage Lifter A consistent taste test-winner! This huge 1-2 lb. heirloom beefsteak tomato is rich & meaty, with few seeds. Great for slicing, sandwiches, and salsas. Developed in the 1930’s by a gardener who sold so many that he was able to pay off his mortgage!

Hillbilly A huge, bicolor heirloom from West Virginia that has a brilliant yellow color with red marbling. Rich, sweet flavor, beautiful when sliced. Won our home-grown taste test a few years ago!

Marianna’s Peace Large, 1-2 lb. pink-red beefsteak with a perfect balance of acidity and sweetness. An ideal BLT tomato and a “must have red” in my garden. A Czech heirloom, the seeds were given to Marianna (a 17year old escapee during WWII) by her father.

Paul Robeson A Russian heirloom with a cult following among tomato connoisseurs. Intense, sweet, earthy, smoky taste. One of the first vines to ripen, fruit comes on hard and fast, then tapers off by late summer.

Berkeley Pink Tie Dye Compact plants produce beautiful 8-16 oz. port wine colored beefsteak with metallic green stripes. Very sweet, rich, dark tomato flavor.

Aussie A beautiful, glossy red, fluted, beefsteak tomato that can weigh up to 2 lbs. Aussie has a bold flavor with great balance of sugar and acid for a full old-fashioned tomato taste. Good disease resistance, a great show tomato.

Yellow Brandywine Sweet, rich tasting heirloom with a similar flavor, appearance, and plant habit to Brandywine, with large gold fruits. Golden flesh is smooth and juicy, with relatively low acids. Pick just before ripe to avoid cracking.

Gold Medal An abundant producer of very large, 1-2 lb., meaty fruits with an amazing color - sunset orange with red marbling. Outstanding flavor, somewhat fruity and sweet with low acidity. A gold medal winner in many taste tests.

Julia Child These plants produce a good yield of deep pink beefsteak tomatoes that are very flavorful, sweet, and juicy. Perfect for sandwiches, salads, and slicing. An heirloom tomato named by Gary Ibsen (TomatoFest) after the famous French chef, Julia Child.

Persimmon A beautiful rose orange heirloom tomato that dates back to the mid 1800’s. Thin skinned with meaty flesh, it has a sweet fruity flavor with low acidity. Good late blight resistance.

Roma Superior 2 oz., thick walled and meaty paste-type tomato with few seeds. A 1950’s heirloom that is compact and determinate.

San Marzano Traditional Italian heirloom/ paste tomato with heavy yields and richly flavored 2 oz. fruits. A classic for Italian tomato

Pink Icicle Very sweet & rich, perfect for salsas, preserving or eating fresh. Incredibly productive. Originated from the Ukraine.

Orange Icicle Sweet, rich & flavorful with strong citrus overtones. Makes great salsa, sauce, and attractive on tomato platters. Very productive.

Olpaka Polish heirloom from early 1900’s. Up to 6” long, productive fruits that are great for sauce, paste, roasting. and even fresh

Rutgers An old classic NJ heirloom that produces large yields of delicious, 8 oz. red globes. Great for canning and excellent fresh. Good disease and crack resistance.

Grandma Mary’s A heavy yielding heirloom tomato from Maine with large, meaty, plum shaped red fruits and very few seeds. 3-4 oz.

Amish Paste Bright red, 8-10 oz. fruits that vary in shape from oxheat to rounded plum. Juicier than most paste tomatoes, it’s great for eating fresh with a rich and sweet taste, yet meaty enough for sauce.

Anaheim Heirloom from New Mexico and very poplar in SouthWestern cuisine. Great roasted, in egg/vegetable dishes, or stuffed chili rellenos. 2,500 Scovilles.

Padron A heirloom pepper from Galicia, Spain, where the bite sized fruits are sauted in olive oil with sea salt and served in tapas bars. Fairly mild with the occasional unpredictable hot one.

Jalapeno Arguably the most famous hot chili pepper in the world. Great in salsas, stuffed poppers, jam, or smoke the red ones to make chipotle peppers. 3,500-8,000 Scovilles.

Pasilla Bajio Mexican heirloom pepper used in “mole” sauces. Mild-sweet-hot that starts as dark green and turns brown as it ripens.

Cayenne Long Slender, 6” long peppers are fiery hot and great to use in salsas, chili, stir fries, or dried f& ground for cayenne pepper. 30,000-50,000 Scovilles.

Pepper Varieties

Shishito A favorite old Japanese heirloom variety that produces 3” long fruit. Mildly flavored with just a bit of spice it is perfect for making tempura, grilling, in stir fries. Approximately one in ten is hot.

Poblano Old variety from Puebla, Mexico. Great in salsa, stuffed, in mole sauces, or dried(when dried they’re called ancho chilis). Fairly mild, 4” long peppers, 1,000-2,000 Scovilles.

Habanero A really hot pepper with a Scoville rating of 200,000-300,000. Great for hot sauces and basting. I beautiful pepper that grows well in containers.

Hot Peppers:

Bhut Jolokia (Ghost) Native to India and one of the hottest peppers in the world, with a Scoville rating of 1,000,000+!! Only recommended for hard core hot pepper enthusiasts!

Thai Hot Small conical peppers that ripen to bright red and stand erect above the foliage. Ornamental and great in pots, pinch when young for 8” bushy plants. 25,000-40,000 Scoville rating.

Hungarian Hot Wax Smooth, waxy, 6” long fruits ripen from yellow to orange to red. Pickle all 3 colors for a beautiful hot pepper medley, slice in rings for salads or pizza, or grill whole. Very prolific producer. 5,000-10,000 Scovilles

Fish An heirloom variety popular in the mid-Atlantic region, this pepper was originally brought to the U.S. from the Caribbean in the 19th century. Distinctive, vividly striped fruits pair with beautiful variegated foliage. Heat can range from 5,000-30,000 Scovilles.

Aji Crystal A hot pepper originally from Chile, that ripens from a pale yellowish-green, to a orange-red, and finally to a bright red. The hot, lemony/citrus flavor is best when peppers are picked when they are young. 20,000-40,000 Scovilles.

Ring of Fire Cayenne type pepper with a glossy sheen and a fire engine red pepper. 4” long peppers are great fresh, dried as chili flakes, or in powders. Heat rating 20,000 Scovilles.

Serrano Tampiqueno A mexican favorite that is best used fresh. Plants are 2’-3’ in height and produce plentiful 1-1/2” fruits. Heat scale is 20,000-30,000 Scovilles.

Tunisian Baklouti A moderately hot pepper (2,000-5,000) from North Africa’s famous Barbary Coast. Traditionally used to make a paste called harissa, but also great for salsas, pickling or roasting. Heat is milder if cooked.

Sweet Banana Mild, yellow/green peppers ultimately turn red. An heirloom from the 40’s that is still popular today. Great on pizza, in salads, fried or pickled.

Jimmy Nardello An heirloom variety from Basilicata, Southern Italy & brought to the U.S. in the late 1800’s. Fantastic on the grill, with an intense, sweet, fruity taste. Also good for frying, drying, or fresh eating. Up to 10” long .

Purple Beauty Beautiful purple fruits that are beautiful in a salad, with a mild and sweet taste. Thick walled, blocky peppers that grow on compact, bushy plants.
