B817: Smart Boards: Beyond the Basics - Make It & Take It

This will be a "make it - take it" session. Teachers must bring their laptop. Learn how to improve class instruction withthe Smart Board. This course is for teachers who know the basics, but want to learn beyond the basics in creating

powerful lessons in their classroom. Participants should bring lesson/unit material with them that is not currently on theSmart Board. Participants will have a lesson completed for the next school year by the end of the session.

B818: Smart Board Applications for the Math & Science Classroom

The purpose of this GreenBook is to teach the more advanced features of a Smart Board (with an emphasis on

learning to use Smart Notebook to create more interactive and customized lessons).

This course will also integrate practical use of a Smart Board in the context of a math and science course. This will bedone by highlighting some of the unique Smart tools that are especially applicable in a math/science setting as well asusing outside resources (websites, data collection devices such as calculators and Vernier probes, etc., to show theusefulness of a Smart Board in the field of math and science.

Teachers enrolled in this course should have previously taken a GreenBook course (or its equivalent) on the basicoperation of a Smart Board or should have previous experience with a Smart Board in the classroom setting.

REGISTER: Sign up only for activities you intend to take. Priority for registration will befirst-come, first-served within the target audience.

CREDIT FOR ATTENDANCE: You will be asked to sign-out of every activity to docu-ment your participation.  YOU MUST SIGN-OUT to receive credit for attending. 

CREDIT FOR COMP TIME: The first six participation hours automatically “count” ascomp time. Faculty members who fail to complete required staff development time willforfeit one personal day. If no personal day remains, pay will be reduced by one day’sper diem amount (prorated for time attended). Article 10.011B 

PAYMENT BEYOND COMP TIME: Hours completed above the first six will be compen-sated at the rate of $15.00 per hour up to a maximum of $180.00 for the year. Additionalearnings will be added to your paycheck and will appear in the box titled “Adjustment” togross. The hourly rate of pay will be credited to participants whose registration has beenconfirmed by the Education Office and who participate. Payment for participants will bein October and May. 

LATE TO CLASS: do not arrive more than 15 minutes late. Those missing more than15 minutes of any hour of scheduled activity will not receive compensatory time credit for that hour. If you can not participate fully in the activity, please do not schedule it. For example: 15 minutes absent during a 1 hour class = 0 credit.

CANCELLATIONS by BCS: Activities may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment.You will be notified prior to the scheduled date.

CEU’s: The offerings in this catalog have been LPDC approved as Continuous Educa-tion units. You will have an opportunity to apply for CEU credits at the completion of each approved session.
