This document summarizes the request from Appian Centre for

Design for allowance of Green Streets in newly built Fayetteville

City Right of Ways at the proposed Cambridge subdivision. We will

show our plans for street sections, where and what LID e lements

will be used throughout the design of the Cambridge subdivision,

details that we will follow in design (the se may not be exact), and

    maintenance.

Appian would like city approval of the direction for street design

prior to actual layout of sidewalks, widths, placement of plantings ,

    swales, and drainage ways.

Appian is presenting Cambridge as a pilot in which the City of Fay-

etteville can test an alternative stormwater system in a traditional

neighborhood subdivision. Appian would like to work with the

Fayetteville City officials and low impact offices for a final product

that can be beneficial for d esigner, developers, and city officials

    alike.

Key design goals for green streets in Cambridge include:

Increase the ability for streets to hold and filter stormwater1.

runoff, using native plantings and permeable soil matrixes

    Improve water quality2.

Control water runoff at its source3.

Improve aesthetic quality of the streetscape4.

    Reduce impervious surface5.

The street sections shown here represent City of

Fayetteville standard street sections except that t he

greenspace between the sidewalk and the curb has

been increased to ten feet and is now a swale. The

streets will continue to have curb and gutter, however,

there will be concrete stormwater cuts or inlets that

allow stormwater from the streets into swales alon g

the street. In optimum places swales will be con-

tinuous bioswales where the subsu rface will have an

engineered soil matrix transitioning to raingardens in

curb bumpouts or other strategic locations (also with

engineered soil matrixes). In other places the swales

will be continuously vegetated with sod.

All details are subject to Fayetteville Engineering depart-

ment review. These details are not final. They are exam-

ple of how we will engineer specific challenges of swales

in the right of way, along sidewalks, and at on-street park-ing bumpouts. For the time being, please ignore section

cuts. Notes and sections will be drawn as necessary.

These are not exact plants to be

used in the Green Street design,

however, a legend will be set up

    similarly: common and botanical

    name, spacing, placement, zones

delineated per high and low wa-

    ter marks, and specimens marked

    out.

Planting plans for swales, planters, and curb extensions will be cre-

ated for variety, use and water volume according to engineer s drain-

age report. Plantings, planters and swales will be given stationing to

correspond with street stationing during construction drawings.
