John Gorse (Expert Panel Co-Chair):

UK Technical Marketing Manager, Philips Lighting

John's career in lighting has spanned nearly 25

years including Product Management,

Marketing and Sales roles with OSRAM,

Siemens Lighting, Marlin, Harvard

Engineering and his current role at Philips

Lighting. Additionally, John chairs the LIA

Lamps Technical Committee, is a member of

the LIA Technical Board and ICEL Council as

well as sitting on a number of other LIA

committees.

Graham Lewis (Expert Panel Co-Chair):

Head of Projects and Solutions, OSRAM

Graham Lewis is the head of the Projects &

Solutions business at OSRAM UK. With over

25 years’ experience within the UK lighting

industry, Graham is a well-respected figure.

Graham manages the UK project sales

portfolio, which includes the brand of Siteco.

This portfolio provides innovative lighting

solutions right across the value chain from

lamps to internal and external luminaires,

and lighting control systems.

Giuliano Digilio:

Head of Technical Services, ECA

Giuliano Digilio joined the ECA from EMCOR

Drake & Scull where he was the Engineering

Manager, and was previously Chief Electrical

Engineer at Rosser and Russell Building

Services. He has a very wide range of

experience in the electrical engineering

building services industry, covering the

technical design, construction, project

management and commercial aspects, for

most types of electrical installations and

systems.

Chris Payne:

Director, GlassGuard

Chris Payne, Director of GlassGuard®, Europe's

leading manufacturer of fragment retention

(shatterproof) lamps, has over 18 years’

experience in polymer technology &

application processes. Through LIA,

GlassGuard® has been instrumental in

assisting an industry technical team with the

drafting and introduction of IEC61549

fragment retention fluorescent lamp

standard.

Sustainable Development Manager, Legrand

Alastair looks after Sustainable Development

matters for Legrand in the UK, working with

the company's Environmental, Sustainable

Development, Standardisation and

Regulatory Teams worldwide. He currently

leads seminars on Sustainable Development

issues for customers, architects and

engineers.

Peter Hunt:

Joint Chief Executive, LIA

Peter has been involved in the lighting industry

since he was a boy and set up a lighting

design practice in 2005. Joining the Lighting

Association Council of Management in 1987,

Peter served on Council for 13 years

becoming President in 1992. In 2008 Peter

became The Lighting Association’s Chief

Executive Officer, and then Joint Chief

Executive of the Lighting Industry Association

in 2012.

Stephen Rose:

Founder, Light Planning Techniques Ltd

Stephen Rose has over 30 years' experience in

the electrical and lighting industries. For

eleven years he was a main Board Director

of one of the UK's top four electrical

equipment distributors. He then specialised

in commercial and industrial lighting design

and supply. In his current position as

Founder of Light Planning Techniques,

Stephen is an acknowledged expert in the

field of sustainability and the associated

financial savings for industry.

Liz Peck:

LPA Lighting

Liz started her lighting career with Concord

Lighting in early 1999 and joined the lighting

design department of Concord:Marlin two

years later. In 2004, she completed the MSc

in Light and Lighting at the Bartlett and was

Senior Lighting Designer at Philips Lighting

for just under five years. She is a Fellow and

Vice President of the Society of Light &

Lighting and has run LPA Lighting, her own

independent lighting design practice, since

October 2007.

Ray Molony:

Lux Magazine

Ray Molony has written about lighting for over

20 years. He studied electrical engineering at

Dublin City University and has been the

Editor of Lighting magazine and before that,

Lighting Equipment News. He’s the author,

with Carl Gardner, of the book, Light:

Reinterpreting Architecture. He has

organised and chaired events on artificial

lighting all over the world.

James Hunt:

Managing Editor, Voltimum

James has worked as an editor for many

electrical industry publications, including

Quality Today, Electrical Products, Panel

Building, Electrical Wholesaling, Fast, and

Product Finishing. James joined the

Voltimum team in 2003, taking on the role of

VoltiTECH’s Managing Editor. He also edits

Green Deal is the latest in Governments CRC programme

Effectively the origins lie in Kyoto Protocol 1997

The Climate Change Act 2008 legislated for a reduction in our carbon

emissions & Green Deal is first announced

Energy Act 2011 included provision for Green Deal

Providers and Advisors (Assessors) & Installers (meeting PAS 2030) being

appointed now (Logo )

Assessments can begin although no consumer sign up until 28 Jan 2013

Estimated to boost the low carbon economy by 35,000 jobs in the insulation

sector alone by 2015. – DECC

The Green Deal could see British homes and businesses save enough

energy to power 1 million homes in 2020.- DECC

written into sale contract – changing perception of value

Green Deal Potentially offers a ‘new view of lighting’ - via a holistic

approach to home renovation

ERP DIM 1 and 2 not enough to push full adoption in homes.

Green Deal / ECO Financing is the key - Impossible to optimise GD in

homes without lighting

Two Fundamental Issues

1. Financing - complexity of most building’s ownership, leases and

tenants and the division of incentives seems to delay Green Deal Non

Dom finalisation.

2. Development of the Green Deal Tool for Domestic Buildings is not yet

complete although selected assessors can download and trial the tool

Greg Barker’s comments

Green Deal will cover lamps luminaries and controls – a system approach

Green Deal may be considered as part of a wider range of incentives and financing e.g.

ECA’s, or Salix

Green Deal may struggle to be heard when Building Regs, ERP, WEEE and RoHS

legislation is already driving lighting targets harder than ever before

Legislation is not just one way traffic

CRC commitments in various forms e.g. EPC, or Carbon Credits, will drive a need to

support Energy Upgrades beyond possibly what landlords & owners can afford today

Remember to achieve CRC by 2050 we need to renovate 50 buildings per hour

Green Deal Non Domestic Sector

From April 2016, occupiers of buildings rated an F or G on an

EPC can request the landlord to make improvements to

the energy performance of the building

From April 2018, buildings with an EPC less than an E cannot

be rented out

If a landlord has a direct relationship with the energy supplier,

they will be responsible for the Carbon Reduction

Commitment, irrelevant of sub-metering

Companies want a building / workplace that reflects their

brand, attracts and retains staff.

stimulating manufacturing and distribution sectors

energy and holistic approach to sustainability. Enables refurbishment through

low capital investment costs

I am an owner/occupier – reduced energy and achievement of holistic

sustainability aims. Low capital cost of refurbishment.

I am an end user – improved health and well being of the lit environment

I am the Nation – Supporting the Economy and the Environment

At this time pro active and helpful advice is limited

Aims and potential are clear and very compelling

As with Domestic we now have to Wait and See what final

clarifications are made

Door is now ajar if not fully open to Non Domestic Green Deal
