    Sustainability Efforts

Edison State College is dedicated to continually

improving our carbon footprint. Sound energymanagement principles and established goals areembedded in the College's strategic planning for theDepartment of Facilities Planning and Management. It is our belief that no one strategy that willaccomplish an all of our sustainability goals, rather

we have developed clearly defined strategies thathave already and will continue to reduce our electricalconsumption, provide LEED certifications for all newbuildings, establish consistent recycling efforts on allof our campuses, and mandate the use of greenchemistries for janitorial services.

  • 8/18/2019 Green Building for Dental Center

    Reducing Electrical Consumption efforts:

established college wide temperature settings for allbuildings at 76F

energy management system on all campuses

construction of 500,000 gallon TES for the CollierCampus

low mercury vapor/high efficient lighting occupancy sensors in all new and in renovation

    projects

plans for LED lighting and solar power in selectsituations

    Recycling efforts include:

all construction projects require recycling ofconstruction waste

plastic/paper/greases are all recycled by localproviders

    Landscaping efforts include:

    zero irrigation native plants

    drip irrigation instead of sprinkling

    Additional Efforts include:

    • Support public transportation with local agencies by

offering discounts for students, increasing local bus routes,

and encouraging van pooling and hybrid technology car

    parking.

    • ESC campuses host annual "Green fest" events that invite

the community to promote or discover new technologies

from companies, vendors and others promoting

    sustainability.

    • Faculty are increasing their focus on sustainability in their

curriculum and the movement among faculty to make it

part of their programs continues to gain momentum.

    • The use of recycled materials in all of our renovations has

increased to include ceiling tiles, flooring, carpeting, steel,

    concrete and other materials.

    •  All new buildings, remodels and renovations use zero VOC

    paints instead of low VOC.

    CONSTRUCTION MANAGER’S IMPLEMENTATION OF

    CONSTRUCTION WASTE MANAGEMENT:

Selectively chose a major wastemanagement firm which would provide

offsite sorting and recycling for maximumresults:

    179 tons of construction waste

recycled which isapproximately 91% of all wastegenerated on this project.

Did you know :  179 tons is equal to the amount

of waste generated in a single

day by a town with a population

    of 89,500.

Maintained a constant seal of openended ductwork throughout construction

Vigilant efforts by all subcontractors tomaintain a clean and dust free site

High efficiency filter media placed atHVAC openings to mitigate dust fromentering into the system duringconstruction

Work that provided heavy waste and

dust was performed outside prior toinstallation

    CONSTRUCTION MANAGER’S IMPLEMENTATION OF

    CONSTRUCTION INDOOR AIR QUALITY:

    Did you know:

Because they breathe faster than adults, children inhale 50 percentmore air per pound of body weight than adults and are especiallysensitive to air quality problems
