Zeus:King of the Gods
Zeus was the son of Titans
His brothers included Hades and Poseidon
They divided the Earth into three realms- Mt. Olympus and the land, the seas, and the Underworld
Zeus married his sister, Hera, but had many mortal wives and lovers
He fathered the heroes Heracles (Hercules) and Perseus
He was feared because of his deadly lightning bolts he used as weapons

Hera was worshipped as the “Great Goddess”; Some of the finest temples in Greece were dedicated to her
Her worshippers were sometimes dismissed as a fertility cult
She was a very jealous wife of Zeus and tried to interfere with his illegitimate sons

Messenger for the Gods
Also God of Trickery- huge prankster
Had winged sandals to fly around Mt. Olympus
In addition, he was the Patron of Travelers; he led souls to the Underworld

Was said to bring sudden death with his bow and arrow
Responsible for the death of Achilles during the Trojan War
Shares the responsibilities of Sun God with Titan Helios
Twins with the moon Goddess, Artemis

Wisdom and the Arts
Zeus’ daughter; born from his forehead (hence her title of Wisdom)
Beat Poseidon in the race to represent Athens: She became the deity of Athens after giving the Athenians an olive tree
Helped Perseus slay Medusa so that she could use the head as a shield decoration
Well known for assisting heroes; Heracles, Perseus, Odysseus, and Jason
