Location

• Greece is located in the south-eastern Europe, on the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula; it lies at the meeting point of three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. Greece borders to the North on Bulgaria, to the Northwest on Albania, to the Northeast on Turkey; to the West it is washed by the Ionian Sea; to the South by the Mediterranean Sea and to the East by the Aegean Sea.

Geographical features

• The total area of Greece is 131,957 km2 and consists of three main geographical areas:

• A peninsular mainland, being the biggest geographic feature of the country.

• the Peloponnese peninsula that is separated from the mainland by the canal of the Corinth Isthmus,

• And around 6.000 islands and islets, scattered in the Aegean and lonian Sea, most of them grouped in clusters, that constitute the unique Greek archipelago. Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, the Dodecanese and the Cyclades are some of the famous islands and clusters Greece.

The weather in Greece

• The Greece weather is fairly uniform throughout Greece . Due to its geographical position, the weather in Greece and the Greek Islands has mild winters and warm summers, cooled by different kind of seasonal winds. The summers are characterized by sunshine and very little rainfall: great summer holidays guaranted.

Greece Tourist Attractions

Some tourist attractions in Greece are its natural landscapes such as beaches, islands, mountains, lakes and forests. But the most important tourist attractions are its monuments of Hellenic influence.

• Some of the archaeological sites of Greece have been recognized by UNESCO as Monuments of Cultural Heritage. Mystras, Olympia, The Acropolis of Athens, Medieval City of Rhodes, Delos, Vassae, The Monasteries of Daphni and the Monastery Complex of Aghio Oros are some of the names included in the list.

• Museums of Greece are an important part of tourist attractions in Greece. They are a storehouse of Greek culture and historical heritage.

Other things• Greek culture is Mediterranean, its people are very passionate and one of

its world-famous traditions is to break plates to express their happiness.

• Its cuisine is notable for its recognized feta cheese, Greek yogurt and its excellent olive oil exported worldwide.

• The source of its "wealth" is tourism with shipbuilding. Currently there is a severe financial crisis and the currency is the euro.
