What Work Is Done at a Branch Office?In some 240 lands, more than eight million Witnesses of Jehovah arepreaching the good news of God’s Kingdom in response to the com-mission that Jesus gave his followers. (Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20) Toorganize this work, there are some 85 branch offices worldwide, allserving under the direction of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Wit-nesses, located in Warwick, New York, U.S.A.

Branch offices coordinate the Kingdom-preaching work and care forthe needs of Jehovah’s Witnesses within a specific geographic area.The Governing Body appoints mature elders to serve as members of aBranch Committee. As representatives of the Governing Body in theirassigned territory, Branch Committee members faithfully carry out thedirection coming from God’s Word and “the faithful and discreetslave.”—Matthew 24:45-47.

Translation DepartmentBible truths often reach the heart more quicklywhen people read Bible-based literature in theirmother tongue. The Greece branch is responsiblefor translation into Greek, Greek Romany North,Greek Romany South, and Greek Sign Language.We also transcribe text into braille for the Greeklanguage.

Service DepartmentThe Service Department cares for matters re-lated to the preaching work and provides Scrip-tural guidance regarding congregation activities.It also arranges for conventions, assemblies, andtheocratic schools.

Local Design/Construction DepartmentThe branch office is responsible for approvingand overseeing the construction of KingdomHalls and Assembly Halls and for ensuring thatexisting halls are being maintained properly. TheLocal Design/Construction Department workswith field representatives to plan and coordinateconstruction projects.

Legal DepartmentThe Legal Department provides assistance in es-tablishing and defending the legal rights of Jeho-vah’s Witnesses.

Hospital Information DepartmentWhen medical emergencies arise, the branch officeprovides loving support and direction through theHospital Information Department. This departmenthelps Jehovah’s Witnesses to obtain competentmedical treatment without blood and strives topromote a spirit of cooperation between doctorsand their Witness patients. The work of the eldersserving on the Hospital Liaison Committees (HLC)has played a vital role in this effort.

Support ServicesThe Greece branch office could not functionwithout the many brothers and sisters whowork in support services. Some members ofthe family serve in the kitchen and diningroom, while others do laundry, hair care,cleaning, housekeeping, sewing, gardening,and driving. Still others maintain the heating,plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and comput-er systems. But no matter what assignment wereceive, it is our pleasure to serve, for we do itout of love for Jehovah God and our brothersand sisters.

Commuters and Remote WorkersIn addition to Bethelites, there are many com-muters and remote workers, who devote manyhours every week to Bethel work. The sacri-fices they make to serve here are very muchappreciated.
