Greater Salem Caregivers
Annual Appeal
2016
Thinking of you both and thank you for all that you have done
for me in the past. God bless you and thank you for
always being there for me and so many others too!
Thank you! Please say hello to the last volunteer. I can't
remember her name but she was great! - Lorraine
Thanks so much for all the aid for my daughter and
bless you for all your help to me!
Please accept this donation in memory of my friend. She often told me that she would not have known what to do without the help she received from the Salem Caregivers. -

Volunteer
of the Year
Estelle O’Donnell
2016
The Board of Directors were pleased to announce the recipient of the 2016 Greater Salem Caregivers Volunteer of the Year Award. Estelle O’Donnell - Estelle first came to the Caregivers in 2001. She was recruited by one of the early founders and stalwarts of the Caregivers, Vinnie Swanson.
Sympathy, understanding and caring for others is a natural part of Estelle’s make up and personality. She was widowed at an early age herself and lost a son a short time afterwards. Estelle learned to manage tragedy by moving on and reaching out to others, not focusing on her own problems but on the needs of others by bringing comfort to people who are lonely and need the companionship of a person with a happy smile and a generous outgoing per-sonality.
For the past 15 years Estelle has visited home bound people in Salem. These visits would be with the same people and she could be with them for months or years. She would become part of the family. These visits might be for an hour or so. Each time Estelle brings companionship and a ray of sun-shine. We receive notes from the children of these clients telling us how much they appreciate Estelle and how much her visits mean to their moth-ers.
Right now, Estelle sees six people a week not only visiting but also shopping for them. When some of the people are in the hospital or a nursing home, Estelle will go there to be with them.
She represents all that is good about the Caregivers. The program is “Neighbor reaching out to Neighbor”. She is a wonderful ambassador for our program because she represents all our volunteers who put themselves
out to help others. People who Give and People who Care.
